Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

My guess is they believe Bjorkqvist's game translates to the NHL level more, even if Bellerive has more points.

Not sure I agree, but that would be the likely rationale.
Could be more than just the game. They were talking up Bjorkqvist's personality when he was up. Which seems a kind of weak thing but if you're picking between two guys who you think are the same player, the guy who brings a happy energy to the place does have a clear edge, I'm sad to see Bellerive leave though, hope he catches on and works out elsewhere.

To be perfectly honest, that is where I did not want to go because of the site rules... but I 100% agree with that.

Ya but I really think jordy should have got a game. If guys like angello did he should have got one.
Angello should never see NHL ice again and Jordy has been extremely underwhelming. I know he had injuries but there are other guys well ahead of Bellivere.

Just for context USS wanted Bellivere up here for toughness and to fight players taking liberties. That wasn't happening with JB

This is all playing out in the most non shocking way. Two groups playing chicken. Even the media "leaks" are so obvious.

LeBrun's tweet earlier said "Hearing there's been a bit of progress in the last 24 hours in talks between the Penguins and Evgeni Malkin's camp - led by veteran agent J.P. Barry. ...."

Seriously, tell who you're carrying water for without telling me. Veteran agent JP Barry? Like - why is that included. Oh wait. Why is his name mentioned? Oh wait.

Lol, age has nothing to do with it when you are performing at a top level. Generational talent tends to age much better then your reguler NHL'er

What does it matter if a guy is 28 or 35 if he's a stud and performing it doesnt matter how old he is. I dont get your thought process here.

Before Colorado won this year they lost 4 consecutive times in the 1st and second round of the playoffs. Do you think people were saying they were never going to win anything? They made tweaks to their roster and won

To say we can't make a few tweaks and be legit contenders is pretty short-sighted if you ask me
Name one team that has won a cup where their best players were in their mid 30's.. There' a huge difference between a generational talent at 28 than at 36

Yeah it so obvious that Barry is playing the media to pressure the Penguins into giving Malkin a better deal. The "woe is me!" article from Rossi and LeBrun saying "Malkin is totally willing to go to free agency, guys!" just have his fingerprints all over it.

Saw one Cali friend bitching about the price for a pack of bacon being over 12 buck the other day. For most people, that's get out of dodge territory.

The COL everywhere in the US is getting crazy right now. I think the only places I've seen that don't have crazy rising prices right now are Costco and Chipotle

Did Rossi/Yohe edit in a part talking about a 4 year offer? Seravalli said earlier that they finally made a 4 year offer to Malkin and now Rossi/Yohe seem to be mentioning it too.

This is odd considering Yohe had "Hextall is firmly against giving Malkin 4 years, he thinks 3 years is a hard deadline" in this article this morning.

the answer to “why would you carry water for x party” is always “so they help them carry water on something else later on.“

you don’t get info on your good looks alone.

This is just me reading too much into it, but the constant flip-flopping with Rossi and Yohe is exactly what they were doing with articles about Letang right before Letang got extended. The basically hourly update of "I'm hearing something new" or "something has changed" was the same thing they did when Letang's contract was reaching the end.

I thought we all universally agreed to ignore those two.

The state/local income tax implications impact as to the decision process are vastly overstated by many in these boards.
It wouldn't be a decisive factor for me either, If I strongly preferred an area over another that wouldn't be a variable that would change my decision. Howeer all things being equal it would tip the scale.

The 2007 Anaheim Ducks. 2 of their top 3 players were up there in age and they had a mix of younger/older players all thru the lineup.

We are also in a pretty unique spot with Geno/Crosby

How many teams have had that opportunity

Then you have the way the players take care of their bodies and perform better later into life. Years from now with advancements in training and recovery it will be even better

Lemieux used to smoke cigs, the training and recovery is worlds different than its been in the past so you have a much smaller sample size to look at

There is also a huge difference between generational talent at 36 than your regular NHLer at 36

I value heat, land, not having roaches and rats in my apartment, etc. so I will ALWAYS choose Florida or Texas. Even with the crazy heat.

Actually we have it pretty good here in Pittsburgh. Beautiful summer. Geno will re-sign because he loves Pittsburhg. Duh.

f*** NYC. Always f*** NYC. From Adam Graves to their disgussssting city. f*** NYC.

Give me Montreal albeit not in the winter. What a beautiful spring/summer Montreal has. I love that city.
I've lived in the NYC region (albeit suburban NJ) for the past 15 years and I agree. f*** NYC. The oceans can't rise fast enough.

And adam Graves showed up at my daughter's LTP hockey program in February. Burned up every last bit of my emotional restraint. f*** him.
