Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Kapanen isn't really going to be any cheaper if he goes to arbitration tbh.

I think it's more why do they want to retain his rights in the first place.
Same reason they gave him 6 NHL games? Not sure why that is, but makes sense if they'd do one they'd do the other.

I would hope this means he doesn't plan to. Thinking was that Heinen's camp stated the 3M figure - so qualifying would mean certain arbitration.

I would assume we wouldn't be qualifying Kappy unless some sort of deal is in place.

I get that, I more mean why do they even want to retain his rights in the first place more than anything.

Not qualifying Bellerive after he had 29 points in 72 games but qualifying Bjorkqvist who had 12 points in 54 games is just a bit odd.
My guess is they believe Bjorkqvist's game translates to the NHL level more, even if Bellerive has more points.

Not sure I agree, but that would be the likely rationale.

Well, it's clear to me Malkin hasn't signed yet. No idea what this is all about but I'm staying out of it. See you all tomorrow.

It would have been nice to see what he was capable of last year instead of the gang of turds.
I like the premise of giving young guys a shot. But Bellerive has been trash since his injury. He's a lowly curtain jerker and should never see an NHL jersey, sorry.

Gurianov just got a 1 year, $2.9 million deal and I think he's about as close of a comparable for Kapanen as you can get. And even with Kapanen's implosion to end last year, he still had 32 points on the year and had 30 points in 40 games in the shortened 2020-2021 season.

Maybe they have something lined up, but I would be incredibly shocked if he was coming in at less than $2.5 million. Honestly, I'm not even sure I see an ideal roster spot for him that doesn't involve trading Zucker.

And yet they couldn't get out of the 1st round YET AGAIN. And there's always a glorious excuse as to the reasons why. Injuries, inept goaltending, a stubborn coach etc. And to suggest this team is a legit contender when you consider this cores age is very naive. I'm very disappointed in you! I expected better...
Lol, age has nothing to do with it when you are performing at a top level. Generational talent tends to age much better then your reguler NHL'er

What does it matter if a guy is 28 or 35 if he's a stud and performing it doesnt matter how old he is. I dont get your thought process here.

Before Colorado won this year they lost 4 consecutive times in the 1st and second round of the playoffs. Do you think people were saying they were never going to win anything? They made tweaks to their roster and won

To say we can't make a few tweaks and be legit contenders is pretty short-sighted if you ask me

Bjorkqvist bout to go pump some iron and not work on any aspect of his game this summer.

Just like the last 5 years.

One hand - you're reading that we have 'deals lined up to shed salary' - then another that says we'd like to.

Kappy at 2.5 isn't that bad. Even if he stinks we could offload that. Heinen at 3 is a train wreck. If he comes back I'd hope it's more like 1.5-2 tops.
