Well, for one, Karlsson controls his destination. Karlsson could have these talks and get back to Grier and say make __?__ of the two happen.
Rossi was just on Madden talking about this and adding more insight. Granted, it's Rossi, so grain of salt. The conversations were related to the systems in place and understanding his role on the team. Karlsson would be coming in knowing he would be on the second pairing and Letang would still be viewed as the number 1 defenseman. However, Letang would shift his spot on the Powerplay to having Karlsson run it. He also mentioned things about how Karlsson like the star culture of Pittsburgh as opposed to Carolina. And how Pittsburgh doesn't have Burns (rumored they actually can't stand each other and that's why it never worked in San Jose).

Again, It's Rossi. But there's your answer Emp.

I mean Mike Sullivan playing Kris Letang at his age over EK65 is the least surprising bit of news I’ve heard in my life.

God this just reads like Rossi fanfic. Pure fabulism; Burns/Karlsson hatred, star culture.

Rossi is a serial fabricator.

RR said on MM: IF SJ moves your hero EK 70% he comes to PIT, prefers PIT to CAR, likes the star power, has friendly rship with Letang and Crosby, doesn't get along with Burns, Rossi (like me) doesn't believe the Canes strict adherence to system and scheme is appealing to EK.

Nah It's true.

How long is the 2nd buyout window btw? Is it already closed?

O’CONNOR’S HEARING
The NHLPA announced the hearing dates for salary arbitration cases, which are set to be held July 20-Aug. 4.
The Penguins’ only case is Drew O’Connor, who filed last week. His hearing is scheduled for the last possible day, Aug. 4.
Gives both sides a lot of time to get a deal done prior to then. Whether this ends in a settlement or an award from a hearing, the Penguins will get a second buyout window for players who make more than $4M. It would open three days after the settlement or award, and last for 48 hours.

Can't wait for it to happen, but patience is running thin.

Yeah, you're right. The admittedly mentally unstable guy who made up the entire ordeal of how Teddy Blueger got traded has real insight into the Brent Burns/Erik Karlsson relationship. And Carolina somehow is still pursuing Karlsson.
Do you know differently? After all, you're a ''chaos agent'' therefore my belief is that you will cause angst and dissention at every turn.

Letang on the left half wall with Karlsson running the PP is exactly how they should be setting it up, but yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

I think that "star culture" comment is probably more relating to how successful Crosby, Malkin and Letang have been rather than a "star culture" of a city. Like Karlsson likes the idea of the Penguins because he'd be joining an organization with a wildly successful star core group. But I may be giving Rossi too much credit with that.

So, if say we sign DOC tomorrow, by friday we could (in theory) buy a player out.

I feel like I just read a lot of shit on Zucker and Smith that hurts my head.

To be quite honest if I am comparing a 30+ year Olds scoring at 5v5 I am doing the last year and then the next few years to see a trend.

This saying well over there whole careers when they both started out one guy did better do he edges the other guy come on we always point out recent results.

Smith has been the better 5v5 producer in recent history and PKs. I think adding another PKer was huge for us and the cost was a third. I am fine with the addition and I think I go with this over signing Zucker mostly because of the fact Zucker was mostly injured the rest of the time here.

I have gotten the sense EK is hyper competitive and confident about his skillset. Almost like a Letang. I do not see him just giving up a 1D role before a trade even goes down. I’d feel very comfortable assuming he sees himself as the best player, not just defender, on any team he’s on and probably the whole league. Just how these guys think.

The “star” factor crap sounds like Pittsburgh sports writer wet dream so I’m not inclined to believe that either.

So I feel like Rossi is spewing complete BS. Feel bad but he has negative credibility. But maybe Dubas knows that throwing Rossi real bits of info will make him an incredibly loyal propaganda machine. You never know lmao

1. Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson hate each other
2. The Hurricanes are still pursuing Erik Karlsson

Why?

Is it some sort of "team of rivals" thing? Or is a serial liar making stuff up as usual?

Truthfully though, if I'm Karlsson I sorta baulk at the "Letang is #1". Realistically, you're probably looking at running both pairings 22-25min and the third pairing <10min. That is what is most tactically advantageous for the team and the respective players. And most of the time you're getting a Crosby or Malkin line. Third/Fourth lines, I imagine they lean on Letang a tad bit more.

And Karlsson running the PP, yes please. As "not smart" as Letang seems at various points in time, it can't be lost on him that Karlsson would be the 1PP QB. And honestly, having Letang and Karlsson as your top pairing on the PP, that's very appealing for a variety of reasons. If I'm Sullivan, I have the sit down with Sid and Geno and tell them that EK is running the show. As the defending team, you're now forced to pick and choose which player you focus on and given the list is: Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Karlsson, Jake? That's problematic. So if you actually commit to a PP system and moving your f***ing feet, we could see a very lethal powerplay.

Letang on the left half wall with Karlsson running the PP is exactly how they should be setting it up, but yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

I can be "A" star and not "THEE" star. I think there's appeal in that. Maybe no different than Kessel back in the day.

Simple answer, they don't like each other, two entirely different personalities. You don't need Rossi to tell you how different they are. Ones weird the other is a down to earth type.

I too wonder this. Trying to drum up some extra value. When it's a 1 Dubas race. I really hope Dubas sticks to his guns and doesn't give up a lot. Debrincat deal can be pointed to by Dubas saying see these guys aren't going for a lot.

Actually RR referenced Kessel, said while EK would be a star here, he wouldn't be ''the star''. Feels better in that role. I agree.

One of the major reasons to bring EK in would be to make the powerplay better. It would be real penguins like lately to put EK on the second unit but yes, EK would open it up for everyone.

It would be a dream. Finally a #1 guy back there since Sarge who distributes the puck where it needs to go

So will EK not waive for Carolina? I thought it was already confirmed he would.

Sid is also hella weird and Karlsson openly made fun of him during the 2017 playoffs.

This is total wishcasting. If Rob Rossi could tell me definitively that Carolina's offer to San Jose blows and they are not going to improve it, that is 10x a better reason than this high school clique bull.
