Despite their age and mileage, getting to play with Crosby and Malkin is absolutely still an appealing prospect for many players. Sid in particular is probably the most respected and admired guy in the league. I can see why Karlsson would be intrigued by the opportunity to be on his team.

Yeah every time you see guys either sign or get traded here, they always talk about how it’ll be a thrill to play with Sid.

I mean, talent’s talent. But yeah, they’d be better off overpaying to add a premiere forward than trying the Karlsson route.

People overate players desire to win especially after they have won. Jake has a cup and will make good money anywhere including Pitt. You think Jake is eager to go play with some Dylan Larkin as his center instead of Sid?

Some players actually enjoy stability and aren't all ready to jet off.

I hope Canes/Preds do a big trade involving Pesce, TT, Skjei for Forsberg+. Lose out on EK and instead pay a ransom for Hanafin. Or get drunk and there is a 3way trade where EK goes to Pens, Vlassic goes to Carolina, a couple 1sts and prospects/cap dumps go to SJ.

The only guy who might be on offer for something similar to the EK package may be TJ Miller, and I'm not sure that's enough of an upgrade over our current LW's to move the needle unless you're sliding Smith to L3 LW. EK would change how the whole team plays and support Geno the way Letang supports Sid.

I'm not convinced it works, but there's rarely a Kessel or an EK available at all, and I don't put Miller (or Debrincat for that matter) in that category.

That’s pretty encouraging to me. It’s not a matter of this player won’t move so Pitt is in a bind, it’s a matter of SJ playing poker and if Dubas offers a little more he can get him - but for now is sticking to his guns because Karlsson has all the leverage and SJ has little.
