not having deangelo does 2 things:

1) removes a glaring defensive liability
2) allows quinn to not feel forced into giving the third pairing extra minutes. More ice time for Miller, Fox, Trouba, Lindgren is going to do this team wonders.

Lets face it ... we all want the top 4 D out there. 5 and 6 just need to eat 10-15 minutes, play solid defense and not get scored on. TonyD, Smith and JJ dont fit that describtion. Bitteto does and he comes in cheap. Everything happens for a reason.

This is correct. Your 5/6 defenseman should be lunch bucket type players. Cheap and unnoticeable.

Also, I know it “doesn’t matter”, but they got absolutely waxed on draws, again.

Miller had his moments but also should have scored a goal and probably had an assist on the Panarin EN. Love that he was on the ice in the last minute. Didn’t p***yfoot with the puck behind the net and drilled it around the boards to get it out

Not the team game I wanted to see in the 1st period to be honest. Kreider was definitely on a mission. This team needs 3 good games and wins in a row to actually give themselves confidence. one shaky win like this, it's a building block but I doubt the team will find their confidence from this game.

Again there’s a reason bad teams should get the top young prospects. They’re forced to play them in all situations and they gain confidence and develop.

That was easily laf’s best period that first period. Shame he sat the rest of the night.

The thing is, in our current system Lafreniere and Kakko are caught in the middle. They can't surpase Panarin, Kreider and Buch (which is understandable), but Quinn doesn't want to play them in the bottom-6 because he wants to win games, and play the safe game with 3rd and 4th liners like Lemieux, Di Guiseppe. Which, is again understandable because he wants to keep his job. But he's not a development coach now is he?

Unfortunately, this win might buy him even more time.

1. Kreider - Guy was a beast and I love when he plays like this. So exciting to watch.
2. Fox - Dude pulled off so many skill moves tonight like it was nothing. Just wow.
3. Igor - Great game from him and Quinn better play him more.

Dodged a bullet there. Thank you young Mr. Miller, tough Mr. Lemieux, talented Mr. Panarin and wise Mr. Kreider. You exemplify everything this team needs to win. A franchise goalie is also critical. Plus a strong, class act, backup who isn't afraid to punch ass hats is a bonus.

A captain would help bring this together. What say you JD?

Second period was absolutely horrendous but third period was very good imo.

That was Lemieux’s best game I can remember, was making things happen all over. Driving the net, drawing penalties, just really solid game.

Strome was also oddly effective by the eye test at least.

Kreider could have had a number of goals, glad he got one.

Shesty was solid - 100% should start next game.
