A .911 save% as a starter in the AHL as a 20 year old rookie is really god damn good.

Vasilevskiy had a .917 save% in his first AHL season.

It's no different than drafting a goalie at #14.

He was picked #11 3 years ago and has progressed as expected for a guy drafted in that position. This isn't trading for an "unproven goalie", this is swapping the Penguins mid 1st for the best goalie prospect in hockey.
I wouldn’t draft a goalie at 14 either. Can you share Askarov’s NHL stats for me?

Here's an idea:

Do you do #14 for Askarov? Askarov is pretty much the caliber of prospect you'd get with the pick, and he has the benefit of being much closer to NHL ready than anyone you could draft at #14. You could go Ullmark-Askarov for 2 years and then hand the reigns over to Askarov.

I guess, but in 2-3 years, we would most likely be selling hard. Handing over the reigns to a young starter just seems counter productive.

Again Gauthier was .907 in 20 games as a 21 yr old.

You just don't make that trade ever. Goalies are Vodoo. That first should be either used in the draft or used to get someone who helps now.

Askarov is probably 2 years away still.

How is trading #14 for Askarov any different than using it in the draft? Askarov was taken #11 3 years ago and is progressing really well as a prospect.

Why would you rather draft a prospect that is 3 years behind Askarov over trading for Askarov?

I don't love it, i think a 14th goalie should be really really good...

Uhh that's a real tough one to judge without having seen him recently.

If Askarov is tracking so well, why is he available?

The Predators have Saros and are trying to trade into the top-5 in the draft.

I don't know why Montreal wouldn't just do Askarov and #15 for #5 though, I don't know that #14 and #15 for #5 is any more attractive than Askarov and #15 for #5.

Because I would never draft a goalie that high. lol
Askarov could easily bust.

Ottenginer was the last goalie in the first round to make an impact. He was drafted 6 years ago.

Would love to grab either Boston goalie. I just dunno if they’ll send one to us, haha.

I would imagine he would be available because they already have a top 5 goalie entrenched as their starter

Smart teams like goalie depth and rarely make moves on it until forced to by the cap.

The thing about wanting assets to move up makes sense, although I don't see how adding 14OA to 15OA is going to get them there. Realistically they need someone to value Askarov higher than that.

No reason for them not to. They’re in cap hell, we’re in age hell, and I think most of the bad blood from the early 2010s is gone. They got their one cup, we got our 3. Life is good. f*** Boston.

Oh I totally agree and I wouldn’t trade 14 for Askarov. I was just speaking to why Nashville might be looking to move him, because I can’t see any other reason other then the fact that they have Saros

The Panthers have interest in Noah Hanifin but have competition from several teams. Flames would be looking at Anthony Duclair as part of that trade scenario. But again, Flames have other options from other teams that could be better.
