Jarry could go into OT 0-0 and the team defense can shit the bed again and people here will blame him.

I'm not sure what the axe is here that you're grinding, but I'm not sure it corresponds in any way to reality. Those were awful goals, period. He looked tight and nervous all game. Deep in his net. Crouching down when he should have challenged. Flailing on the ice and losing his stick. Glove side was reminiscent of Murray at his worst. It wasn't a good performance and there's no reason to try to pull the team defense down with him IMO. He just needs to be better next game.

I’m a big believer in team defense making a goalie look worse then he is but Tristan Jarry was just plain bad today. I mean he was awful. He was the biggest reason they lost. If he just makes a save on 1 of those shots the Penguins win that game. It’s ok to blame him when he was actually the problem. This wasn’t like earlier in the season when he wasn’t really getting much help. The defense in front of him today was good enough to win, the goaltending behind it wasn’t. The Penguins weren’t great defensively by any means, but they were absolutely good enough to win if they got even average goaltending today

A little early to talk sweep, imo. Pens probably win if Jarry is average, or even simply bad.

We go down 2-0 though, and nothing about this team recently makes me believe they'll come back. Especially since home ice is supposed to be supremely important for this club.

While the PTSD from prior years is understandable, if they get reasonable goaltending they win easily today. He allowed 2 goals on low-danger chances, which have around a 98% SV% during the regular season, and 2 more on medium danger, which are around 93%. You can’t beat anyone with that goaltending but it also doesn’t reflect on the team’s play.

Scoring chances were 33-20

High danger scoring chances were 11-6

They controlled xG in all situations

Doesn’t mean they won’t come out Tuesday as a team and shit the bed but if they play the same game they win way more often than not.

Yeah, after being off for a week I don't know what we should have expected. The 2nd half of the game it was just a bunch of nonchalant play by Matheson and some others hanging onto the puck too long and such giving the Islanders chances to pounce and create turnovers that should never have been there for them. In a sense they created the Islanders longer possession streaks. They need to be much quicker with their decisions.

I still blame Jarry for not playing goal for the given position play on each of the goals. He either didn't have the confidence or he forgot how to take away shots on goal in a easy fashion. That OT goal should never happen if you stand and hold your post like you should.

They lose on Tue. I might just have to get to what's more important. There's always things to do, and I don't want to do those after aggravating losses that are relatively on their own accord.

No surprise here. Everything is happening just as I was saying it would.

As was expected, Pens had a steaming pile of soft excrement in goal.

As was expected, the team appeared lazy and not willing to work hard to create chances and finish them.

As was expected, the team appeared mentally fragile and hesitant. Apart from the fluekt Kapanen equalizer, they were never assertive, confident and determined. Isles should've won it in regulation.

As was expected, Crosby and Letang showed their infamous "leadership", predicatably unable to get the team together, calm them down, make them move their legs in the 3rd, score a so much needed goal whem the team needed it the most.

As was expected, Pens PP was a bunch of clowns looking like AHLers, not like "top stars" of the league.

As was expected, Sully showed that he has no control over this room. He cannot motivate them. He cannot calm them down. He cannot make them work harder. He cannot make necessary tweaks to make them break down the Isles tight defense.

Everything is going as was expected.

Isles in 5 if Pens are reaaaaalllly fortunate. Most likely, Isles in 4.

Just massively disappointed. I guess that's par for the course. When the game is on the line, the Pens don't come through anymore. Maybe the end of the era. Maybe i'm just really pissed off right now.

Pathetic. It just felt that way the whole time. Here's to game 2.

Lots of star leadership on this team, what can we say.

Flat game after a long layoff, including an egg laid by a young goaltender without much playoff experience. Sucks, but it's one game. Let's see what they show up with on Tuesday. Lose that one and we can bury them.

Believe me, Malking is a big problem, but it's only one of a pretty long list.

Although his presence wouldn't have made any difference. He is washed out and his mind isn't on hockey. I just wish his cap hit gone to use that space on more motivated and usefel players.
