From a poster on another site re Jarry:

—During his 6 wins, he's given up only 5 goals, with 4 shutouts. A .969SV% and 0.833 GAA
--During his 6 losses, he's given up 23 goals, giving up 4 or more goals in 4 of those games. A .846SV% and 3.833 GAA.
Not even Stanley Cup champs get a complete game from their offense, D, and goalie every game.

When our offense and D don't show up, we need the goalie to save the day (at least occasionally) and steal us games.

Sadly Jarry just doesn't have that element to his game.

Isn't it interesting how the teams who play the Pens the most tend to embarrass them the most? The more you play against this team, the more you realise what paper tiger it is. It's probably going to be the same shitshow on Saturday unless the Canes goaltending completely fails. And then b2b against a very physical team that is the reigning champion. Fun is going to be had... by somebody.

We usually play Vegas well.

If we beat the Canes, I’ll write this one off tbh.

According to Kan Dingerski, and I know you can take his assessment with a grain of salt although he claims to sit next to scouts during the game, after the Pens got several rush chances early in the first period, Ruff changed tactics and had NJD sit back and play the type passive forecheck the Pens have been doing in recent games and they generated a lot of TOs from us trying to force plays thru their tight coverage…apparently Sullivan made no counter adjustments

Depends…are the Canes goalies letting softies in or are we really spending time in their end and generating good chances off of good defensive structure? If the former, I’m not writing this one off lol

there is some truth to the above, we just could not get through NZ, even if they managed (mostly L1 and some L2) to get through with some skill, they were boxing them to outside and their defense was winning a lot of wall plays. we still managed to get some grade A chances. L3 and L4 did not manage to get through their NZ all night long, there is no one on those line with any skill to do that. They could not dump either and establish anykind of zone time. Now we wanted to do the same thing but Bratt and McCloed were just flying throughh the bunch of pylons pretending they are Penguins players in the NZ. Also their F1 guys were pressuring our dman so hard that they could not or had no idea how to get the puck out of zone (Remember Petts panicking and retreiving with the puck and almost scoring on his own goal, unable to get rid of a forechecker and not getting any help).

What's with everybody here? Did we just fall off a cliff or something?

The game was what it was....
- Underestimating a team with out Jack Hughes.
- Not adhering to a strict system and playing run and gun against a younger, and faster team.
- Jarry being Jarry. Makes a big save or 2, and then lets an easy one in.

What a marvelous collection of the Penguins' greatest hits from the past few seasons:

- allowing a shorthanded goal - check
- allowing a 4 on 4 goal - check
- allowing goals in bunches - check
- allowing a goal right after taking the lead, thus losing all the momentum - check
- Jarry looking like a complete amateur right when the team needs a big save - check
- making a struggling opposition goalie look like a superstar - check
- total loser mentality - check
- inability to clear the crease - check
- too cute on the power play - check
- inability to capitalise on other teams' missing important players - check
- abandoning the successful tactics from the brief winning streak because we are too cool for this shit or something - check
- not learning anything from the losses following the exact same script against the exact same team

In short, way to go Pens, you sure know how to shoot yourselves in the foot.

I would include-

Blowing two leads
Losing to a shorthanded team
Losing to a faster team
Losing to a younger team
Losing to a divisional team
Losing at home
Losing to the Devils

This game had it all

Bound to happen. At its heart, this team is still going to be inconsistent this season, like it has been the past several years. We just have to hope the "good" games outbalance the "bad" games in order to have a shot at the playoffs.

If Ludvig and Ned are healthy we would have to send Hino down.
Doesn't he have to clear again? I mean the risk is small, but probably a little riskier now than back in Oct. There are some teams with needs, Oilers, etc, for fill-ins/everyday players for less than $800k.

The Canes look a lot more vulnerable this season than last so maybe that's an actually winnable game.

Man and we have the Rangers next week which is sure to be an aggravating game as we'll probably outplay them but manage to blow it.

I think we'll do alright vs Vegas though

Period 5 is where we mount the comeback lads

This team isn't slow. They mentally play that way.
Not slow perhaps but definitely not fast either. The Devils made them look like they were skating in quick sand and they routinely do that to this team.

I think the Pens have average team speed at best.

Now we can get back to the reality of things on this board :wg:

Penguins got blasted in their sleep tonight.
Jarry sleeping on 4th goal... Not many goals scored where the goalie doesn't even see the puck going into the net. haha...
The Penguins underlying numbers are *incredibly good*. Like, elite. If you could magically put a top-32 goalie on their roster, they’d be a playoff lock. If you put a top-16 goalie there, they’d be top-4 in the east.

I won’t say “top-5 makes them a contender,” because that’s probably true of any team with an elite goalie.

But the point is, this board’s reality is stuck in 2018-2022. The 23-24 penguins are legitimately good everywhere but net.
