Do you trade Jarry for something like a 3rd or equal value if his game has been "rehabbed" enough to get callers?

I say easily yes. But as pointed out above... Ned has been putrid this season.
Without question. Blomqvist is ready and it's shitty that he has to stay down in WBS because of our goalie situation.

If Ned or Jarry were moveable I'd trade them right now without a second thought even if the return was a bag of pucks.

You let the players determine the direction of the team. If the 'retool' works better than expected, you might find yourself buying sooner than you'd think. This is very unlikely to happen of course, but if it did, I wouldn't call it confusing to buy in such a situation.

I think most of your fellow Penguins fans would disagree with you but I haven't much agreed with THEM much the last year or so. So... fair enough?

Oh me, too.

But I think this would be a fairly split topic. I personally think you can get goaltending that's at least good enough in the short term just about anywhere any given year. Others feel like goaltenders are one of those things where you MUST have a "name" guy in net. Hence Jarry and his moronic deal.

I mean... I think there is a chance anyone can turn things around especially at that age. But I just can't help but see every single largely-ineffective middle six player that has come through here for years when I watch him play. I keep hearing about all this supposed ability he has but his numbers don't bear that out. And he's played good chunks of seasons with some pretty terrific players.

I dunno... if they could get him on a side deal for one of their like 1000 3rd round picks they've accumulated I wouldn't say no I suppose.

Without having looked hard at his linemates, his 5v5 numbers look good to me. I disagree with you there. He's converted potential into production before.

I'm not big on paying a big price for him though, no. Tomasino for a 4th next millennium is great.

I'd still probably add modestly to get rid of Jarry without taking anything back. I'm sure he'll have many more great two-three month periods of play in this league, but he's just too tied to the team in front of him to be worth a big contract here. Escape ASAP.

lol Brock Nelson, Kreider and Vinny T over guys like Tage and Caufield is... well... entirely unsurprising.

I remember back when Ray and Dan did something similar with the Olympic Team USA roster. Worked out great.
No Jason Robertson either sure is a choice. I know he's having a bad year but come on.

Not surprised though. Sully would absolutely adore Brock Nelson, Trocheck, and Kreider if he had a chance to coach them.

Honestly though it's still a good roster despite the dumb decisions they made. So I guess there's that.

Brock Nelson has been killing it and Trocheck has too.

Seems weird how many people are comparing those selections to players like Dubinsky and Abelkader.
Miller is a weird choice given he's on leave. I guess they know something we don't and he's planning to be back in February?

I'd trade either Jarry or Nedjelkovic in a millisecond if they could. I've grown to have more faith in Jarry after his turnaround, I'm back to "he's just an inconsistent and mediocre goalie" with him, but Jarry's contract is terrible and I don't particularly like Nedjelkovic at this point. Ideally you have a reliable veteran goalie and Blomqvist as a goaltending duo, similar to how Minnesota is running with Fleury and Gustavsson.

I think it may be tough to move Jarry even with him playing well, though. The UFA goalie market is unusually good this year. Even if you assume Shesterkin doesn't hit UFA, there is still Hill, Thompson, Vejmelka, Blackwood, Quick, Vladar, Lankinen and Andersen as guys having pretty strong years that will be hitting UFA. The first 3 (Hill, Thompson and Vejmelka) especially all seem like better options than trading for Jarry.

It makes no sense with where the Penguins as a team are at, but I'd really like signing Thompson and running with Thompson and Blomqvist as their long-term goalie due. I've been a very vocal fan of Thompson for years, though.

The player is upset. See: Barclay Goodrow.
Couldn’t a team just like, do that?

Let’s say we find a taker for Graves. But let’s say it’s on his NTC list. And it’s a bad contract for another bad contract that we think we can work with.

We waive Graves, they claim him. In a separate transaction they trade us their bad contract for “future considerations.”

That part is possible. I also believe some teams have bullied players into okaying teams on their NTC list by going "accept the trade or we waive you and who knows if someone even worse claims them before you". Maybe some day in the future the NFLPA manages to get a clause in the CBA stating that a player can't be claimed by a team on their NTC list, but not today.

The part I have my doubts on is finding someone to take Graves.
