People need to get it into their heads that Dubas does not have the power to fire Sullivan without FSG approving it first. You think he is the GM and President because he was the best guy for the job?
He is both because no one would take the job to be a lame duck GM acting on the whims of a coach that is in bed with the owner.

Anyone would take that job.

FSG made Dubas the top paid person in the organization. You guys are so out to lunch on these takes.

The franchise much like Sullivan views Dubas as a genius.

People have been saying so and so is only around because Crosby and Malkin want them here going back to like Colby Armstrong.

Other than each other and Letang, they've all been sent packing. They'd get over Sullivan, too.

....unless they brought in somebody as clueless as Johnston again or as unlikeable as Torts. That might push them over the edge and demand a trade.

Sorry but you have to be an idiot to refuse 40 million dollars over 7 years to not take that job where you can either be good or suck and it's acceptable .... He is a puppet and he knows it.

Is part of Kyle's plan to make Malkin and Letang "comfortable" include saying the whole roster is up for trade including them?
I think this is being misconstrued.

Dubas did not say that, at least certainly not publicly.

This is what Taylor Haase reported:
A league source told me earlier this week that Kyle Dubas has made it known to other teams that "everyone is available, except 87."

So it's a single source from somewhere in the NHL, sharing something that is being passed through the grapevine. Not a direct Dubas quote. Not a Penguins source. I'm sorry, but I'm going to need more than that to believe that Dubas is about to clean house.

What else is left but to clean house my dude?

This would be a mistake by Dubas if he keeps Sullivan just to keep the core happy.

I'm already fully on board with trading Letang if you can get futures for him and I'm inching more and more to asking Geno and Sid if they're willing to consider a trade as well.
I think it's a mistake, too. I think the core would be OK with a coaching change if it's done in an effort to get them one last shot at another Cup. And I think it'd have to be to bring in someone whose resume they respect.

I think Dubas is absolutely willing to move Rakell/Pettersson/etc.

I don't think he's going to move 87, 71, and 58. I don't. And that's the issue I have with people jumping on Haase's report and immediately taking it as gospel, because it runs completely counter to everything he's said about the core.

Idk firing Sullivan to get Crosby, Malkin and Letang to be okay with a trade feels like it makes a lot more sense than firing Sullivan to try to chase another cup.

I'm not going to sit here and say "I want these guys traded". But I'm having a tougher and tougher time caring whether they get traded or not when the product we're watching is so horrid. In the end, no one is going to remember that Malkin spent a year with someone else. Just like no one remembers that Brodeur played a year for St. Louis or Modano played a year with Detroit. If any of these guys either want to be traded if Sullivan is fired, fire Sullivan and fulfill their wish.

He just blamed Malkin for that turdbag Smith's lousy year JUST this past offseason. I don't think he cares one whit about the core aside from Crosby and would trade them all today if he could.

Sadly I trust that report more BECAUSE it's not from a local source. But you are right that it isn't a direct quote and I'm certainly playing it up a bit to take digs at what is clearly a shitty GM with nothing but the worst interests at heart for the only things left I care about on this team.

And we are also seeing a GM who traded Jake Guentzel for Michael Bunting and "win now" prospects while peddling that he wanted it to "compete now".

We are seeing a GM who traded Yager for McGroarty with the illusional that he'd contribute to today's roster.

That's the issue. I have no problem rebuilding, but do it correctly. And you don't have to trade the big three, but focus on making moves that leveraging us into getting 1sts, not late 2nds and 3rds.

Can't remember if I replied to this already or not. Gawd I wish I had the free time I used to to BS about hockey all day long.

How much of that is Dubas's wishful thinking, where he was hoping to do some kind of retool on the fly to remain competitive with the group he had? And how much of that was some kind of directive from the ownership group who just recently paid a fortune for the team and wants them to remain competitive? And how much of that is Dubas/ownership's promise to Crosby (and Malkin and Letang) to try and remain competitive while they're here?

As for the picks... a bunch of 2nds isn't the end of the world. Lots of good players get drafted there. I'm also okay with trying to grab some good prospects who will get here sooner... We need all the help we can get - short, mid and long term. It's the 3rds that bother me. Like WTF with Eller? Good 3Cs (which Eller is) go for 2nds all day long near the TD. Are you seriously telling us that a late 3rd 2 years from now and a 5th is the best that was out there? Even if you didn't want to wait until the TD in case Eller gets hurt or something... that still seems like a very light return.

They could have at least made it a conditional pick, like a 3rd in 2027 that turns into a 2nd in 2026 if the Caps make it to round 2.
