Another game puck for Rasmus "99th Percentile" Sandin for an assist and a very nice 69% xG share.

Honorable mentions to Logan Thompson (despite the OT goof), Taylor Raddysh, and Dylan Strome.

Can't give the puck to the guy who totally had a mental lapse and blew his coverage on the first goal.

Sure I can. These are my game pucks. Feel free to create your own, and award it to whoever you think has earned it. On a night where everyone screwed up to some degree, I think Sandin was their best player.

They've been getting away from their details since the CBJ game. It was better in the STL beatdown but five of the last six haven't been consistently firm/sound enough. It's a trend and likely not just about fatigue or time off. It's another reason for going out and adding a measure more reliability at center ice.

Now with Roy and Chychrun back you'd think they're well positioned to tighten up their game. You'd think. But stuff like Wilson's soft turnover at his blueline puts it all to the test. They were somewhat fortunate to even get a point out of this game thanks to Thompson. The second and fourth lines need to be more effectively dogged. Perhaps now with Eller there will be a bit more of that on the third as well, although I'm not sure how much should be expected from Vrana/Mangiapane in that regard. If they really want to place an emphasis on that I'd sit Vrana, assign Lapierre and bring up Miro.

Wilson has cooled down significantly since that hot start and is beginning to do dumb things (turning the puck over, making bad passes). CMM I think is carrying that line, dude looks like an absolute stud.

He’s an 8 million dollar passenger. It sounded like a catastrophic move when it was made and nothing I’ve seen has changed my opinion.

Further to the PLD discussion, because I was interested in his numbers so far this season. And yeah it looks like the models at EH agree with you: he's been the passenger compared to McMichael and Wilson.

It's early so the models will likely have drastic adjustments over the next month or so, but I haven't been super impressed. He's cleared the very low bar I've had for him, but hardly an impressive first month+. One of his strengths before this season was his power play impacts and he hasn't really been a difference maker there.

Agreed on the details part. They’re turning over way too many pucks and trying to make too many cute plays/over passing. There’s a time and place for many of those plays and it seems like they got over confident after their hot start and slipped a little bit, trying to make plays at the wrong times instead of keeping it simple. They are a genuinely good team, but they can’t play like that and be successful.

I didn't watch the game, but watching the highlights, Protas trying to force feed Ovi who was double-covered, instead of shooting, was not smart either. Sure the result was a goal luckily, but ummmm, not smart.

Just send Ovie there to hunt when its EN time. Game over. But no no, its selfishly putting the record over team success, see how its done with team-first-grinders. Hope we learned a lesson atleast.

Could end up being quite critical fail looking at the tables. If at the G78 we are battling one-two points a way with the Leafs for wildcard spot we really get to revisit this one..

On the flip side whanever that "Ovechkin out there so excited to get ENG" -crowd gathers you should show them this ending as to why Capitals use him in those situations so much. He knows how to put the game away.

WTF was Wilson thinking

Their puck management was terrible all night and they just completely sat back in the 3rd without pushing for any more offense. Protas and Duhaime passed up empty nets, Wilson had a horrid giveaway, and Thompson for some reason let Tavares have that breakaway in OT.

I trust Carberry will use it as a teaching lesson, but that was really bad. The point isn’t a huge deal, but they need to realize they can’t play that cute and expect to be successful. They’re good, but they’re not that good.

The worst part is they sat back, but still tried to make the cutesy, offensive plays to exit/enter the zones. If you're going to go into a stupid defensive shell, then just chip it out and make the safe plays. They did the worst of both worlds. So f***ing frustrating.

Tom Wilson has made some of the dumbest plays these past few games. After a great start, turnover machine Wilson from 2023 and 2022 is resurfacing.

He had an easy opportunity to clear the puck along boards and inexplicably chose to keep it in for the Leafs and pass within his own blue line - which resulted in a goal against.

That is a Mike Green caliber idiotic play. No excuse for a veteran player like Wilson to be doing something that dumb.
