The Penguins have more draft picks total than both teams you're cherry picking, so what was your point?

We have a bunch of 2nds and 3rds.

Nashville has 3 1sts and is trying to be competitive.

Capitals have a bunch of 2nds this year and are being competitive.

You can do both. We have a bunch of low picks and suck ass.

Who could possibly be worse? The team is so tired of Sullivan that I think even Edzo would give them a new coach boost lol

Reminds me of the Hextall conversation. Who could possibly be worse?

We got him.

Dubas could easily turn us into Buffalo and we have ownership that has been notably cheap in other sports markets.
I thought we were talking about coaching? I don't think any coach could make this a worse situation.

Dubas? Yeah sure he could. He has. He may continue to.

Don't worry... maybe he can take on a toxic contract for an irrelevant pick or trade the team's best prospect in a lateral move (hopefully?) and we can all praise him, again.

I was looking at the Pens schedule in the next little bit and they have an absolutely brutal stretch coming up starting November 19th. 10 game stretch where the face the Lightining, Jets, Utah, Canucks, Bruins, Flames, Panthers, Rangers, Leafs and Avs.

They legit might go 2-8 during that stretch. Their only wins this season are against garbage like the Sabres, Ducks and Habs

Another thing Wener mentioned in this was that him and Henry talk to Dubas everyday. I wonder how these conversations are going nowadays. "So uh Kyle, do you plan on running our 900M investment into the ground or is there some kind of plan here".

"Kyle, you are still doing what we've asked*?"

"yes, my master"
*FSG turns slowly in their chair*
"goooood.... Gooooooood"

*what they've asked was to destroy the pens because we "stole" the Bruins colors, the $900mil loss in value will offset their other stock gains

I get Kyle Dubas had like a thing for his Soo Greyhound players but holy shit I didn't know how deep it went.

He's brought to his teams in the NHL from his Soo Days: Bunting, Campbell, Murray, McCann (then lost him in expansion), Hollowell, Katchouk...lol. I know the last 2 on that list, they came after he left but likely had scouting reports on them and kept tabs.

In any case, this was an interesting read, it's not filled with the whiny Leafs losers shit like it is here...

If they can go 0-10 or even 1-9, I think that should sort it with Sullivan being gone. Yeah I saw that kept tabs part too, I think Kyle is likely telling them what he can about the roster but it boils down to coaching, they (Werner/Henry) claimed they liked Dubas' moves this off season and wanted to be back to being a playoff team, well if he tells them I can make more trades like others did or we can go a different route...maybe that'll do it. Because if you do it by end of November, I am almost certain the Pens won't be the only team changing their coach by then.

I just hope they don't make David Quinn the coach and Kirk MacDonald isn't ready, I still prefer Todd Nelson just for how he connects with the players and his open mindedness with his discussions with players and feedback and his willingness to keep adjusting as the game goes.

Also, Pens were last valued at 1.47 Billion.

A guy people will poopoo but I think would be a good HC and also a good fit here is John Stevens. Been around a while, pretty good record as HC, 3 Cups as an assistant. Pretty straight-forward guy that would be able to fix our defensive issues with a Cassidy-style layered-defense, which looking at Boston & VGK doesn’t seem to stifle offense at all. I also think we are better equipped to play a heavier, more physical game but Sullivan prefers avoiding hits and sort of staying in motion on the forecheck but Stevens comes from the Flyers / Mid-2010s Kings style of size and toughness.

He’s got a job in Vegas but maybe they’ve got a gentleman’s agreement that if a head job opens up he can take it.

Get Sturm as an assistant just because of how he played.. Fast 2-way forward that would climb up your back on the backcheck to steal the puck and go the other way. Feel like he’d get more mileage out of the DOCs and Lizottes, and he wouldn’t get in Sid or Geno’s way.

Sturm was absolutely horrendous when he was an Assistant with the Kings and running their powerplay, it's why they essentially demoted him to their affiliate to "learn it to earn it" if you will. They had him run the powerplay for 3 seasons and it was around 25th in the league in those 3yrs, in the final year before he was sent to the AHL to coach, they got up to as high as 16th. They didn't improve the PP% the year before, it just remained awful 3 straight years lol. He was Todd Reirden 2nd Pens tenure levels of bad at it.

As for John Stevens, its tough - He's a damn good Assistant Coach that can't translate it to Head Coach is the gist of his tenures as a Coach from the things I read. Good bloke, great assistant, couldn't translate it as a head coach.

This thread was hilarious though -

They had the 2nd best PP in the AHL last year, but I’d put him in charge of forwards and the PK.

Dubas stinks. Let's stop giving him excuses. Sullivan is here because of Dubas.
That may or may not be the truth. I agree that we should stop with the excuses, but the balance of power within this organization is very much open for debate. I think there is enough evidence to suggest that at this point.

Little known fact: the GM and the PoHO have the ability to fire the coach.

lol
Again, we don't know this for sure. I mean, I don't think anybody would feel completely comfortable firing someone who is friends with ownership, and who is so revered by basically everyone other than us, that he is the current head coach for the national team.
To say nothing of what Crosby and the core think of the guy behind the bench.

And of course Dubas could be on team Sullivan, too. We don't know for sure. All I know is that this head coach is not an easy firing for anybody outside those of us who have known since 2018 that he is no longer the man for the job.

What is the evidence?

Frank Spaghetti? Dude sucks.

Dubas is probably the highest compensated GM / POHO in the league right now. No chance in hell an organization is footing that type of contract and then telling him he can't do things.

FSG specifically scooped Dubas. He's their guy. Sullivan may be their guy too, but Dubas has the power. He's just not doing it because it's a lever he can pull, but puts more heat on him. At this point we have people focusing their heat on Sully.

What if FSG hired him BECAUSE they knew he worked well UNDER people, such as Lamoriello and Shanahan. I don't know man.

I know it sounds like I am making excuses for the guy. It's just that this coach has more power than any other in the league at present time. He has the support of USA Hockey, he has the support of the Penguins core, and he has the utmost respect and support from FSG.

But you do bring up a good point. Dubas probably loves this job and knows that the heat will be squarely on him if he made an unpopular firing (super popular around here, but nowhere else).

Sometimes, people make strange decisions in order to keep the job they love.

He's not working under anyone?

He's the highest poistion in the organization and being paid more money over a longer period time than anyone currently signed by the Penguins including players.

I truly believe he has to answer to Sullivan on certain roster decisions. It is the only thing that makes sense. Because Dubas sabotages his own moves, otherwise. He is either handcuffed or the dumbest of dumb f&^%s.

One must be true.
