I like DOC a lot knowing full well what he is and what he could be. I think he's a guy who under a different coach can legit be a good forechecking defensively responsible "3rd" wheel in the top six somewhere.

If he's given the same opportunities that Beau has had here this year, going the whole way back to training camp, I feel like DOCs stats would be better. Instead he's literally played every position on almost every line and hasn't had time to develop any chemistry anywhere with anyone, honestly his value is probably at an all time low right this second.

Id prefer to keep the guy, even if he just stays a really good 3rd liner on a reasonable contact because unless he is bringing back some of the unreasonably high expectations that have been placed on his trade value around here why trade him at all? Just to get a random 3 or 4th rounder that probably won't play in the NHL for more than 40 games over a five year stretch.

You have to have players on the roster. You have a cap basement you have to hit that is surprisingly high, you might as well hang onto him and keep playing him and hope he gets a consistent line and ups his value because trading him right now is making a trade just to make a trade.

You send him to say Colorado, Dallas, Carolina, or Tampa bay, and just get a 4th for him, it's going to look like a tomasino trade within a month.

I think DOC's probably only ever gonna be successful as a bottom-6 guy. He just doesn't have the on-ice IQ or puck skills to do anything with the puck once he gets it on the forecheck or by digging it out of a puck battle. Kills his ability to really be a third wheel on a scoring line imo. At nearly 27, what you see is what you're probably gonna get, like a 25-30pt dude who tries real hard but just kinda sucks. /shrug

Anaheim pays to take on Troubas entire contract. All you have to do is run a or campaign about your player being "thought to play against" and some GM will pay up

Wild, man. Imagine paying Jack Johnson $8M AAV.

Larry Brooks said something insane about the Rangers trying to get Brady Tkachuk lol. I kinda doubt that happens.

But if they're clearing this much cap space they presumably have something else in mind or they would have just done this in the off season

Yes, Macklin Celebrini should've been a Penguin for Jake Guentzel.
If they'd traded Jake before the season started Sid might have pouted hard enough to make it happen standings-wise

If trouba can be traded, at 8 mil, with no retention and no sweetener and return an asset, someone has to be willing to take on graves.

Someone probably would if Graves had any physicality to his game at all but sadly he's soft as butter despite his size

The Trouba one is a head-scratcher for Anaheim to be honest. Not like they needed him. Wonder if they think he can regain some of his game and be a commodity next year at $4mil.

Waiting on that trade Kyle

The only thing accurate in that statement is that he has essentially a little over a year left
Putting up points is open for debate. Over this season and the last 2 regular seasons, Trouba is being out produced by MP- .38 to .35 in 2 less games (175 to 177). Not really a ringing endorsement.

Petts has the most value as to play and contract expiring. I really don't want Hoglander unless he is moved in another deal. Dubas has to be objective here and a winning streak is meaningless. Pens are not good and lack speed and jam to make the playoffs. Far better to move to getting the system deeper for the future.

Back to Hoglander for a second, an idea I had was trying to do something around St. Ivany and a pick for Hoglander and then trading another pick to try to get another reclamation style RHD. If Trotz wasn’t a downright idiot, I would have thrown out:

-St. Ivany and a 2025 4th for Hoglander
-2025 3rd for Fabbro

But Fabbro isn’t an option because Trotz waived him. But if they could pull off someone like him, I think I’d easily ship out St. Ivany as a piece for Hoglander.

Liljegren would have been another good target before the trade. I cant think of any other struggling D that are available.
