Kyle Dubas says blown leads ‘a problem’ Mike Sullivan, Penguins must rectify

lol..thanks Kyle…inciteful…

“The Penguins are in the midst of a difficult stretch. They’ve gone 1-2-2 in their last five and ended up on the wrong end of the score in six of the last eight. But they are also in a part of the schedule where most of their games are at home – 11 of 14, to be precise. The Penguins also have more practice time coming up.

“So, can we rectify a lot of the issues that have cropped up in our game over the year?” Dubas said. “We've talked about being able to close out games, the defensive side of our game – our structure in-zone, neutral zone, tracking back, what we're giving up in transition. Can we get all that stuff rectified?

“Can our younger players, who are part of the group, can they continue to grow?

“Can we execute upon those and can we use this time where we're at home, have practice time, our fans behind us and pushing us? Can we use that to take steps competitively? Do we have what it takes to push through, compete, grow, develop? That, to me, is what I'm watching for.”

Kyle Dubas says blown leads ‘a problem’ Mike Sullivan, Penguins must rectify

So I guess Sully still has his job. Now that unseen forces have caused this rash of blown leads, which never happened before this year, who else but SuperSully can fix this problem?

Good news: Kris Letang (illness) and Kevin Hayes (upper-body) are both on the ice for practice in regular jerseys.
So who sits: Pickering/Shea/St. I? I'm guessing the latter.

Sounds like he just finished listening to a Tony Robbins podcast.

The funny part is Dubas is so bad that even when we fire Sullivan, we are going to have to sit around and wait for another 5 years of ineptitude from the GM to get started on an actual rebuild.

Depends how lucky the Pens get with the draft. Any idiot can make a #1 or #2 overall selection and not f*** that up.

If the Pens don't get lottery luck then yeah Dubas' job gets harder and he hasn't show any aptitude for being able to navigate that kind of rebuild.

Develop and grow? Does Dubas know this is the oldest team in the league?

And yet Dubas f***** that up pretty good at his last job. It doesn’t matter if you draft good players high if you have no clue how to build an actual team.

Well yeah building a cup contender is a whole other ballgame from just making the playoffs.

But if you get a high pick or two you should at least be able to manage making the playoffs.

Just long enough to over pay all the guys you drafted so it’s impossible to build a contender around them.

We’ve seen this fish before with Dubas. Making the playoffs doesn’t do it for me, making the Finals does. I have zero confidence that he will ever build a team capable of that.

It won’t help when it’s 2036 and Sully is still here.

That’s some of the most trite crap I’ve ever seen.

Far from a guarantee these guys pan out, however I think Kyle has done a fairly good job in extracting value with the draft picks. Brunicke and Howe look like very good value. Now, it's very early but it looks promising. Ilyin also looks good early on. As does several others. How and what he does in drafting and developing such players will be the primary and IMO the determining factor as to if he's a good GM or not.

Not Pickering. He's an LD. Letang coming back changes nothing for him. Sully certainly doesn't like Graves either.
My guess is JSI.

Depends on the supporting cast at the time. What year are we talking about?
One player - especially if he's a Forward - isn't gonna change much.

It's pretty clear this organization's all on the same page and entirely content to twiddle their thumbs and wait for Sid to get his final shot at the Olympics.

I just hope they have the spine, and brains, to fire Sullivan once the regular season ends, and they go into next season having shipped out guys with any value like Petts, Rakell, Rust, and EK. DOC and Bunting can kick rocks too but they're f***in' worthless.

We are seeing some of Dubas drafting now going on for Toronto it's better than ours as of late which doesn't say much.

The 2024 prospect pool is the best prospect pool in years for us. He's done well.

Tired of this politician rat and his bullshit diatribe. I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth.

Hopefully, someone buys the team and replaces this idiot.

“He talked about how they moved out many existing players—including Phil Kessel to Pittsburgh—but also kept a lot of good young players who helped the transition for the core of that team now, when the likes of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander were ready to move in.

“I'm a firm believer that if you throw everything overboard, you really have to be careful what you wish for, because you could go a long time before you're back to being a competitive and contending team,” Dubas said”

You got those players by throwing everything overboard you idiot. This man should not be responsible for managing our franchise.

I’ll I read here was more lack of direction.

No he’s right (he also wasn’t GM then). They did not move Kadri (24 years old), JVR (25), Gardiner (24) for picks as rebuild moves. Nor did they move Bozak (28) or Komarov (28) in ‘rebuilding’ trades.

Also that he learned nothing from his time in Toronto.

This is the “success” of the team he built there.

One playoff round won. One. With talent such as Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, etc.

He should be talking about how he’s going to do things different here, not the same.
