I don't really know if this isn't a best case tbh. The team might struggle even more without Guentzel, and I don't really know how much not having Guentzel for 2-5 games for an acquiring team would really hurt his trade value. It helps them to commit to what they should be doing.

You might find a someone for Smith since he's one and done. Rakell isn't going anywhere with that term. He's not movable now or over this offseason.

That Guentzel announcement really sucks. We just took a hit there. Our trade return is just swirling in the toilet now. This **** show of a team just can't get out of it's own way.
Unless it's worst case scenario this won't hurt our return for Jake. In fact, him not getting beat up further over the next couple of weeks would mean he'll be fresh for a playoff run to a team interested.

What do you fellers think of Jake with 50% retention to Edmonton for Holloway and their 1st and 2nd. Holloway seems like he’s got some upside still, has scored everywhere but NHL, and he can fly. Let’s get big, fast and young.

Try to get a mid-round pick for Smith and maybe Carter will waive to go back to LA for a 7th.

If we’re really mailing it in tell Edmonton we’ll take Campbell for their ‘25 1st.

They should try to sell all of Guentzel, Nedejkovic, Reilly Smith (if they can find a taker with his extra year left), Ty Smith, and Ruhwedel at the TDL

Keep Petts for next year's TDL when he will have the most value. If we can't move Reilly Smith at the TDL then try again when more money is available to teams in the offseason.

Ruhwedel might be the weird depth trade teams makes to ride out the regular season injuries. A decent amount of NHL and just about as important super cheap on the cap. He wouldn't bring much back but what the hell.

Ty Smith doesn't appear to have a place on the Penguins. We might as well add him to the Guentzel or Nedejkovic trades as part of an effort to get a better prospect swap out of a team.

Every team could’ve had Smith for free but passed on him. Just don’t QO him this summer and move on.

I'm intrigued by Smith on the PP and I think there's a pretty good chance that EK65 isn't here next year. I may keep Smith around to see if he can be a specialist PPQB.

Jake Guentzel is on LTIR meaning he will be out a minimum of 24 days and 10 games for Penguins. He’ll be out past the NHL trade deadline.Doesn’t mean he can’t be traded. But interested suitors won’t get to see him play before deadline. Every time I think Gerbil Boy can't get any dumber He surprises me

Man, Jake being out longer-term is rough. That's the one thing that could not happen this season and in classic Pens fashion, they held on to him to see if they could make a push (simply to end up 1st round cannon fodder again) and now he's boogered up.

It's not like a team that wants to trade for Jake Guentzel needs a reminder of what he is. There's tons of tape on him including from this season. Nobody needs to see him play to know what he is.

I have no doubt they can move him if they want to. But knowing the Pens they probably don't want to.

Yeah, I mean, he's still movable. But trading for a pending UFA who just broke his hand/pinky/whatever definitely makes teams hesitate imo.

Ah well. Good opportunity to play Rakell with Sid and hopefully increase his trade value for the summer. :naughty:

Yeah, I don't see any way Jake not being able to play before the deadline doesn't hurt the chances he's traded or the return they get.

Given the injury, teams would for sure be willing to take a risk on him, but probably not willing to pay quite as much. And if they're not willing to pay quite as much, that might persuade the Pens from trading him at all. I mean, some 'insiders' say they don't want to/aren't going to trade him regardless. Add on top of it the return being reduced....not good.

I'd like to see Smith on his LW.

Certainly gives Jake more free time to work out an extension if one is forthcoming. We should know before the deadline if he's re-signing anyways. At least you'd think.

Agree with this.

Why would someone give up significant assets only to find out that Jake can't play rest of reason/playoffs, and then gets lost on a UFA.

Pens not in a position of strength here. I suspect they will resign him, as even during a rebuild, they want to fill the seats.

Jake not playing will be a concern but he has to pass medical stuff anyway. Pens will be hard pressed to be a playoff team this year and said all along, Dubas has to take a deal if it is good enough. Pens have to have a 2 year plan to move off Rust, Karlsson, Geno for picks and prospects as part of the rebuild. Then draft talent to build the next team to compete with. Tanking is a 2 and 3 year deal and FSG will not do that.

I still think Dubas will have his pick of several good/great offers even with Jake's injury. Retaining 50% opens up the field of suitors and he's only slated to miss like a week of games after the TDL iirc, so there's still a couple months before the playoffs. Sure, some teams won't want to risk getting damaged goods, but it's not a super serious injury, he's got a lengthy resume, and if teams were seriously interested in paying to acquire him, I'm sure some, if not most, would still be willing to pull the trigger.

We'll see what happens. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time though, and I wish Dubas would've been working the phones all season and have dealt Jake by now. Oh well. Still hope, but this team loves doing the dumbest shit possible so, just gotta wait and see.

It would be nice if Dubas made a slight hockey trade, just to waken up the room (Joseph for a Joseph caliber forward). I know he brought in Harkins, Ludvig and Puljujarvi but if axing the coach is off the table, you got to do something to keep the team from going stale.

as i see it, they have no choice. sign him and then look to trade him later is their best option. to lose him for nothing would be ......just dumb
