The Old Master
come and take it.

I think Jake was always going to return an absolute haul. It's a matter of whether the organization has the spine to rip the band-aid off.
Like others have said; get something (and significant at that) for Jake. This team's donezo. If you want to throw money at him this summer to lure him back, whatever, but keeping him through the TDL should be considered the objectively wrong move by all parties--those that think this team's cooked, and those that still have hope they can get one final run outta things.
Also, take a hint, FSG/Dubas.
No, just cowardice. The same thing that's gonna drive the Pens to keep Jake.I figured there was some sort of deadline to fire coaches that has already passed and that's why we couldn't let Sullivan and/or Reirden go

Regarding the hand shake deal with Jake to trade him now and sign him in the offseason, that's technically illegal, right?

"We can't fire him now! We have to wait and see how the shuffled around deck chairs perform on the ice first!"There's always a deadline!
"Well we can't fire him NOW it's too early and the team hasn't gelled yet!"
"Well we can't fire him NOW it's too late in the year and there are no good candidates!"
"Well we can't fire him NOW they are only <X points> out of the hunt with <X amount of games> in hand!"
"Well we can't fire him NOW because the GM didn't give him a good enough roster this year... again... for the billionth year straight over the course of three GMs!"

And on and on and on...

It reeks of burnt Dunkin coffee and stale donuts!"They can't fire him NOW I just finished constructing my Mike Sullivan shrine in my living room!"
You know how many coaches outlast 3 GMs.
Sort of nuts if you think about.
Coaches are hired to be fired got telephone gamed into coaches are hired for life regardless of results for this organization, I guess.Imagine trying to take a team seriously that elevates a coach to the same level or above first ballot HOF players. Especially in the NHL.
Boston fans are spoiled brats. The Red Sox broke the curse under FSG ownership and won their first title in 86 years. They've won three more World Series since. No team has won more titles than Boston in the last 20 years, and they still have one of the highest payrolls in baseball (where spending money doesn't always equal success).Boston’s fans burning FSG at the stake makes a ton of sense given what we have seen.
With Monahan going for a first, the teams that can actually trade for Jake are dwindling. The only teams in playoff contention that still have first round picks are Edmonton, LA, New York, and Carolina. LA doesn't have much cap space and are collapsing. I can't see us doing business with the Rangers or Carolina unless it's a massive overpay. That leaves Edmonton as the most likely trading partner.
Stealth Edit: And the Golden Knights but they are cap strapped too. They are also any option.

You sound like to speak to Jake personally, why do you think that? It's honestly a perfect landing spot for himJake ain’t going to the oilers.
Jake at 50% is $3 million AAV for the rest of the year, and assuming the Pens get a younger roster player back, or a guy to make the cap work, I pretty much have zero doubt every team would call to throw their hat in the ring if Jake was made available. With Monahan going for a first, the teams that can actually trade for Jake are dwindling. Watching this team gives me the runs. That seems to be the only runs associated with this club with the way it's going.Good thing FSG has built such a great hockey club here that we're spoiled by the riches of deep playoff runs.
Previous ownership apparently chased off Rutherford and then hired Hextall and Burke. Or do their contributions not count and it's all on FSG and Mike Sullivan?Good thing FSG has built such a great hockey club here that we're spoiled by the riches of deep playoff runs.
Taking steps to remedy the on-ice product at any point post-acquisition would be nice, but I do realize that nobody in Boston knows hockey or business, despite all the universities and hockey rinks there. Maybe this new "Harvard" place can look into some sort of "masters of business administration" program?Previous ownership apparently chased off Rutherford and then hired Hextall and Burke.
