I don't think EK has been that misused. Our Powerplay is terrible and his bad decision making is a large contributor. The single biggest culprit on the player side of things. He has been very productive at 5-on-5.

The powerplay is its own horrid thing, but I'd rather see him freelance more out there 5v5. Watching him try to play safe is excruciatingly awkward sometimes.

Monahan for a first round pick and conditional pick to WPG is crazy…hopefully the kind of overpayment and more we can get for Jake…top prospect, first and young really good NHL player

Honestly trading Jake to a playoff team for a haul and asking him if he wants to come back in the offseason (after we clear the dead weight) might be the only way this team gets one last final legit crack at being a dark horse.
That’s a definite strategy. I do think if they can’t come to some agreement by the TDL hes likely gone. I don’t think Pens are in the position to offer him $9M + or should be offering him an 8-year deal at his age…I think the offer they proposed to him which he apparently rejected, 6years at $8.5M, is pretty close to where the Pens need to stay

Just gaming it out in my head, but if they WANT to keep Jake, trading him and getting some cheap young talent back (so we can get rid of Rackell, Smith, etc.) would make a lot more sense than trying to sign Jake and then dealing with the declining fortunes of the roster.

For sure…does Dubas have the balls to play that game and take the risk he doesn’t resign knowing Sid/Sullivan won’t be happy for the rest of the season? Highly doubt it lol

Monahan for 1st and conditional 3rd makes it seem like a seller's market? Even if we want to maximize the Sid-Geno-Letang era, it seems like selling to reload for next year might be the best way to do it as opposed to staying pat.

Well, with the NHL about to announce Olympic participation in 2026, I imagine that seals it that Sid's gonna stick around for at least another season after his current deal is up. Even if the Pens are complete dogshit by then, he'll probably go through one final season to get a shot at playing Olympic hockey with Mac, Marchand and McDavid.

2 biggest names getting moved early means Guentzel could fetch an absolute haul IMO
I think Jake was always going to return an absolute haul. It's a matter of whether the organization has the spine to rip the band-aid off.

Like others have said; get something (and significant at that) for Jake. This team's donezo. If you want to throw money at him this summer to lure him back, whatever, but keeping him through the TDL should be considered the objectively wrong move by all parties--those that think this team's cooked, and those that still have hope they can get one final run outta things.

Also, take a hint, FSG/Dubas.

...thus completing the Sid/Mario circle of fate.

A top 3 prospect in this pipeline isn't exactly special. They got a prospect who isn't the best prospect on the average team and a late 1st, and took on a bad contract. That doesn't do anything.

Yager is a better prospect than Hunter whatever, and Kuzmenko is a negative asset atm. It's less a style clash and more him not shooting 25% again.

A prospect is a prospect. A 1st round pick is something.

When you start drafting a lot in the 1st and get prospects back that can be top 5 in other organizations you start rolling the dice and eventually the dice will roll on a hit. The more chances the more hits.

If Guentzel was a 29 year old free agent from another team you'd offer him $9 million+ per year for 8 years?
Well that would be 7 years.

At 8 years I think we can use that extra year to lower the dollar amount. So I wouldn't give 9.5 personally at 7.

I would target Kuzmenko as a buy-low candidate.

Could really click with Geno and get his form from last year back.

I actually would be interested in a buy low with him. Mostly because I think Kuzemenko + Malkin would create a line that we need to give O line time to and possibly Kuzmenko will hit the pucks Malkin gives him.

If we are out of the playoffs. Makes me want to trade him more.

If Monahan is going for a first, I wonder what we could get for Eller. Especially since available centers is drying up.

Would make the bottom 6 painful to watch however with a low dollar amount + guaranteed to be a 3c next year. Could be a candidate.
