Idk how anybody sees that deal and thinks a Guentzel trade would be worth it. If you need to rebuild in a couple years and want to trade Guentzel they could probably just get a similar package then.
Thats assuming he re-signs this summer. Would a high mileage Jake still have that value at 33? If he isnt extended by the TDL, thats a hell of a return on an expiring asset. Hunter Brzrtkjhrjghfjgh would instantly become our top prospect, and they get the pick back they will lose to SJ, plus a guy who scored 39 last year before a styles clash with the new coach.

Vancouver must truly be stacked if a guy near the top of the league in OHL scoring as a defenseman doesn't rate as one of their top three prospects.
Pacing for 100 points...imagine having a defenseman capable of that production :sarcasm:

Who wouldn't?

Besides Montreal, I mean.

You don't get a decent player by offering a turd sandwich (basically an AHL-caliber turd sandwich) in return.
Montreal fan reaction to the trade: we won because we didn't lose any of our players in it, we are the best, so many championships vs 5 other teams

Speaking of Montreal... real cool to see how well Matheson is doing, there.

And by that I mean it's a kick in the shin. What a dumb offseason that turned out to be.

I mean... not that he'd be doing that, here.
It's pretty funny when you look at all the players the team has thrown away the last couple years. They had a good bottom-6 but Sullivan is a nut case who has no concept of what works in today's NHL.

Gaudreau, Blueger, Tanev, Lafferty, Noeseon, Erod

It's frankly incredible how many players look ahl-caliber here and then go on to be good bottom-6 guys elsewhere.

Gotta keep playing guys like Carter, Mckegg, Garret Wilson though!

I'll be fair and say that every team has it's misses and that there are also players that have left here and gone on to do f***-all. But I tend to lean towards your opinion that on top of drafting/developing being a little dodgy here... overall pro scouting and talent evaluation seems off, too.

Must be Ron Hextall's fault.

Yeah it kicks ass that pretty much every team over the past decade has won on elite talent up top and capable depth scoring from their 3rd line but this team refuses to do anything but run 3rd liners with Sid and Geno while also running a 4th and 5th line for their 3rd and 4th lines. Sick. Stay the course, gents. It's bound to work.

Zegras’s PIMs are crazy for a guy that is not physical at all.

I have no real factual basis for this whatsoever but it's funny that the "hot dogger" that all the crusty old f***heads bitched about for weeks after his lacrosse goal is heavily scrutinized by the stripes.

I've always felt like Malkin gets screwed because for most of his career he couldn't verbally defend himself to the refs, or wasn't comfortable enough in his English to do so.

But he's also kind of a moron with his stick and temper at times.

He does indeed make some real bonehead decisions with his stick sometimes.

But I also agree that he gets some reputation calls, too.

I think in general it's fine to be highly suspicious of this league's officiating.

Geno just has that macho Russian shit where he refuses to walk away or back down, so he's always mixing it up and getting into shit and refs are dorks so they hold grudges against guys who ignore them.

Yeah. On one hand I hate it for obvious reasons. On the other hand I love it especially on a team filled to the brim with such a bunch of milquetoast pushovers.

i mean, Matheson did do that here. He was top 4 quality good. Looked really good too in some stretches.

I don't think he's really doing any better in Montreal. He's just getting the #1 opportunities.

Yeah he’s not any different in Montreal than he was here lol. Which is another reason why it was dumb to trade him. This team badly could use Matheson.

It’s important that you score points the right way, which is basically in the most boring way possible.

Nothing wrong with not scoring either.

Throw a puck on net occasionally and your advanced stats will look good / improved. See: ZAR/Ruh if you'd like a live example.

So long as every play results in an attempt - however weak - you're a better hockey player than anyone else.

Truly the stats-era has ushered in some absolutely wretched styles of hockey. It's worse than the dead puck era at times because at least then there were fights!

Having scoring depth is definitely the best way to win in the playoffs, but we just saw Boston have the best regular season in league history with 2 scoring lines and 2 defensive lines. We can't even hold down a playoff spot.

We don't really have 2 scoring lines.

Was obvious in the Summer. Did plenty of goal estimations and by all accounts - we were gonna be short on goals this year. Here we are.

It sounded to me like a coded message to Jake’s agent, just like the agent came out in the press and said they were waiting to sign until the off-season…you don’t say this unless you’re trying to sign the player and seeing Dubas’ history signing the TOR core, he’s going to overpay…guarantee Jake will be signed for at least 7 years and between $8.5-9 M lol

I dont know if a 8.5 by 7 or 8.5 by 8 is an overpay.

hes a ufa and one of the best hitting ufa this year. Nylander just got over 11 million.

A 1st rounder + a guy who would be considered a top 3 prospect here. Is exactly what we need to get things going.

I am on the sign Guentzel train but if he is not signed and we let him walk that will be a disaster for us. We need a .625% rate to make playoffs. I don't know if I see us hitting that mark. I hope we do. Sign or trade Guentzel no walking.

I remember those posts in the offseason. Seems like there is some truth to that. Did you do them or was it someone else.
