You had me at I don't watch football. Sullivan has issues and one of them is deferring to veterans. Only in 2016 did he actually play younger players that by April were improving to be able to add elements to win a cup. The Pens rarely are better in April than December. Only one playoff series looked like they were the better team. It is now 5 years of not winning a playoff series. Now unless the changes that Dubas has to find a way to make are the Pens looking like they are looking like a playoff team. But if Dubas is wanting a team to play better, then there are only two ways. coaching change or better players.

My 80 years old grandmother would do a better job in coaching this team than Mike Sullivan. Of course Tomlin would too. The results in last 6 years are shockingly bad when you consider rosters that we had. Feels really really bad, it´s like losing my girlfriend or so. This team has been my partner for 15 years. I made a promise to never watch a game again with Sullivan behind the bench. That really sucks, I will miss this sport a lot, I know it. But being married to this team hurts even more, I can´t stomach it anymore.

If they fixed the PP, this team could EASILY be in the playoffs. It is the 1 thing that is absolutely within their control.

Can't fix Jarry being a headcase.
Can't rewind time to make Sid, Geno, Letang and EK younger.
Can't force JC to retire.

This is one of the marginal areas where Sully is literally costing his team points.

You can fix Jarry - a new coaching staff and system as well as maybe seeing a new goalie coach to help. The issue I find is that a lot of the haters ignore that he can play very well that shows he can. The issue is also the defensive structure has been f***ing awful for 6yrs and suddenly it's a topic only when it fits the narrative for a lot.

If so many talented players struggle behind bad coaches or situations why is the goalie ignored for it?

Mike Sullivan got the GM to believe this team needed Jack Johnson and Big Game Brass and yet we're sitting here blaming the players that have shown the willingness to play better but are struggling behind this f***ing anus of a coach.

I find that hilarious personally. A lot here will mention so and so will do well elsewhere and never really figure out why, is it the coaching situation? Obviously. But nah here it's always the player that sucks.

In the case of Johnson and Ruhwedel, yeah they f***ing suck. Carter is just too old for a suitable role on a contender and should be on a younger team as a mentor which he's quite good at actually.

The issue is the coach and has been for a while. But yeah those awards etc. I think Bylsma had his moment the same way Sullivan has, they both grew stale yet one is never on the hot seat.

I still see nothing wrong with Jarry's contract. My issue is the GM and coach talking to him isn't the fix. It's finding a new voice for him for a goalie coach to maybe see a new approach to his other aspects of the game. I know I'm his only fan here at this point but I still wish he left the team so others could see him do well in a better situation and then whine about how we let him go..

Dubas kept him but kept all the problems that exacerbated the issues for a long time as well hoping it would change if he got some solid additions that I don't mind for the most part but keeping the same idiot in charge of them was a very dumb move by someone reportedly very smart.

Next person that types the phrase expected goals should have to skate across the blue line with their head down and Darius Kasparaitis on the ice.

Expected goals per game have the same value as expected leprechauns per unicorn fart.

Well yeah, the second sentence proves the first sentence true.

This isn't a defense of Sullivan, but Tomlin has all of the same issues as Sullivan while seemingly being a substantially worse tactician than Sullivan. The last time the Steelers even won a playoff game was January 2017.

Since the 2017 season, the Steelers have missed the playoffs in 4 of 7 years and have gotten decimated in the playoffs (0-3 record, 40+ points against in each game). Sullivan has his issues, but they're not even in the same stratosphere as Tomlin.

This is really a situation where you should just say you're not informed instead of saying "yeah I'd take Tomlin over Sullivan!".

What I do find comical is the Canucks essentially have the Pens old staff. Sarge for defense and Tocchet head coach.

They're playing a smarter and more complete game by what most blokes consider "our trash" in their roster doing a good job. It's almost as if the ex AGM knew they were being misused, staff and players, and figured if he could get them he would and did.
