No one is saying he will be fired. Everyone knows he won’t.

Everyone is saying he should be fired and the media is a bunch of cowards for not calling him out.

Two very different things. His tenure has gone from a great coach to a joke of a coach because of the love of mediocrity at this point.
Well, I hope you weren't listening to The Fan in Pittsburgh earlier this morning.

Ron Cook, Joe Starkey and Bob Pompeani all not only would not fire Sullivan midseason, but they would merely put him on the hot seat after the season ended if there is another disappointing performance.

:help:

The Fan is garbage so no I wasn't. Also every writer you listed knows nothing about the Penguins.

But ya Sullivan is Tomlin 2.0. Neither gets criticized at all and both are two of the biggest jokes in sports.

I'm just saying, they are representative of the mentality in this town. You're not going to get media members calling for the ousting of someone with Sullivan's resume. It hasn't happened with Tomlin, either.

The only ones who get that level of vitriol in the media are people who generally fail from the start or bungle the job so badly relatively early on that there is no other option but to campaign for their dismissal - Matt Canada, Ron Hextall, etc.

This is a town whose loudest voices embrace the concept of the Steelers only having three coaches since 1969.

Steeler fans are so spoiled. Every year they’re competitive: Tomlin is a goo coach.

Don’t compare him to Sullivan.
Sullivan has won two Cups since Tomlin last won a playoff game.

Sullivan has missed the playoffs once. Tomlin has missed the playoffs four out of the last six years, and went 0-1 in the playoffs in each of those two years that the Steelers made it.

A 10-0 loss to the Sharks on Saturday would be in the teams' and fans' best interest long term. That would result in coaching changes, I'd have to think.

Hopefully Granlund and Rutta are feelin it come game day. Maybe Zadina taps into his star potential.

Logistically speaking, it's highly unlikely there is a coaching change in the middle of the west coast trip.

Earliest would be after they return to Pittsburgh.

Therrien was fired between road games in Toronto and New York, easy travel - especially for Bylsma coming from WBS.

Johnston was fired after a home loss following a 4-game west coast trip.

Asking SJS to score that many might mean 10mins of ENGs
I'd be ok with that.

Yeah that's fine with me. They likely miss the playoffs with any coach, but at least one path leads to more entertainment value. It's difficult to watch them lose the same way over and over, and listening to the coach say the same crap.

Check the Sharks roster for guys that haven't scored yet this year. Then make the appropriate bets.

So start Jarry? 10-4.

I mean, I know much of HF has made up its mind, but it's pretty rare for any major decisions or deals to happen this early in the season.

Trades involving major pieces don't happen until Thanksgiving at the earliest. Even coach firings take closer to 20 games.
Well They know more than real Hockey people don't ya Know?? & then when The new HC is here & nothing significant changes then they will start on him because they can't deal with the fact that the Pens play the way Little Sidney wants to play

Unfortunately the Granlund revenge tour is on hold because he’s injured I believe lol…

93.7 isn't just the FM frequency of that station, it's the combined IQ of those 3 "experts". So, like most of the media, their opinions shouldn't concern anyone.

It kinda does though. FSG loves Sullivan. If there isn't even an ounce of local pressure, that should indicate he is here to stay.
Yeah, I mean, I think this is just about the only place that even questions Sullivan as a coach, let alone has anything approaching harsh yet valid criticism. Guy's revered as one of the best in the business in the entire hockey world. /shrug

The PP is an easy thing to coach. As the coach choose 3 players who are locked up spots on it. Put those 3 during practice in a room with some screens. Have those 3 choose the last 2 players themselves.

After a small ceremony for the chosen 2, they hunker down for 3-5 hours with no coaches to draw up the very rough game plan. Coaches are not allowed to make any changes or force input ever again for the pp.

There you have it, recipe for success. I know penguins management is reading this. DM me for payment info for this brilliant plan.

Aside from selecting the final two players on the power play, I'm not convinced that this isn't how they've already been doing this for years. Considering we all complained about "the Mike Yeo power play" having exactly the same problems we're talking about now - how many power play and head coaches later?

PSSSSSSST Players on PP do whatever they want, so firing the coach in charge is worthless & Firing Sullivan is not going to make Sid, Geno & Letang 25 again & Rust & Jake play like the actually care

Depends on who they get. If they brought back Therrien, or a similar coach, who would be willing to send the second unit out when the first unit wasn't doing what they were expected to, you may well see the power play change.

I'm not saying they should bring back Therrien, mind you, but I am saying that a coach that would hold the first unit accountable for standing still and endlessly passing around the perimeter is not an unreasonable thing to ask for. (Though I admit the current team does seem like they could use a classic Therrien Rant right about now... "I think their goal is to be the worst defensive corps in the League, and they're doing a very good job of being the worst!")

YMV how much of that you want to blame on goalies, but as I said above, why is it that the goals are mostly being scored on the top 6?

If you get the same goaltending, and one set of forwards is getting twice the ice time as the other set of forwards, one would expect to get roughly twice as many goals scored against the group with more ice time, if they're playing equally well defensively.
