It's a bit strange. The only thing I can come up with is that they don't want to burn the 30 days in the NHL limit for guys that have already cleared waivers when they know they will just be in the press box. If they reach that 30 days, then they have to re-clear waivers to be sent down again.What exactly has Ryan Shea done that makes them worried he’d get claimed on waivers? I’m not knocking the guy, but I can think of about a dozen other players who cleared who would be more attractive.
So the plan could be to keep these guys in the AHL until the forwards start to get banged up a bit and there's a question if a guy's going to be able to play or not, bring one of Z/White/Hino/etc. up for up to 29 days/8 NHL games, send them down, and bring one of the others up. Ensures they will all be in the organization in case they are needed at some point.
