I really hate the "it would be done by now" takes. Like....why? They have until the deadline.

Everyone said the same thing about re-signing Malkin, Letang, and Rust. If any of them would sign for less than $7M, it would have been done by the trade deadline.

A few months later and they all signed for under $7M.

I just don't want to hear: Pens get Mark Donk and Buzz Fillbin in return. Marl Donk is 24yo old scoring at a .4ppg rate in the AHL after being a 5th round pick. Buzz Fillbin is a project and will take many years of therapy and rehabilitation to remake into a strong 3rd line wing. Oh and he's 5'8.

Be patient! Dubas is secretly an intelligent GM because he wears glasses and got a player that demanded to leave San Jose!
I don't know what to tell you. I don't understand how you can be mad about the EK trade. It's fair to say he isn't what the team needed but we traded all our garbage + a 1st for the reigning Norris winner. FA wasn't great but that was mostly because of the Graves deal.

If every team involved says "No, you're not getting a 1st, you're not getting any of our good prospects, you aren't getting anything but our 4th line garbage", do you still want the 4th line garbage?

(Assuming that Sid doesn't ask out)

And no, this isn't to defend Dubas. So don't even think about going there. Go fight with the voices in your head, not me.

Donk and Fillbin are playing top line minutes and destroying the AHL with Phillips!!!!!!

Yeah, but just wait until you see them next to 37 year old Crosby and 38 year old Malkin!

Guentzel is just a rental trade, no need to get overly dramatic claiming the organizations future hangs on the balance. Dubas absolutely does not have to get it perfect, just get er-done.

Dubas could trade some bum like Ruh or Smith just so we have something real to talk about

Problem is while we have time until the deadline we have other players to move. Hope this doesn't gum that process up. I would imagine once Jake is moved it frees Dubas and Spezza to quickly pivot into moving the lesser lights.

I'd be way more confident in our return for Jake Guentzel if Hextall was the GM.
I don't even know if you're being serious or if this is some kinda Andy Kaufman-esque shtick. That's how absurd your takes are. Bravo, either way.
Hextall was f***ing terrible. Right now KD is on the clock.

It's f***ing pathetic to say I misssss GMJR
I don't really give a shit what Dubas does tbh. So long as he starts to tear shit down and gets decent-to-good returns, it's whatever. This team's been dead in the water for years, and may not even make the playoffs again while Sid's still playing. Time to end the masquerade. /shrug

I'll judge Dubas on the post-Sid stuff. This has always just been a task of guiding the plane down gently in a field after JR, Hextall and Sullivan killed the engines and f***ed up the landing gear. People are just too dumb to see through the "No way guys, we're still super duper trying to win the Cup, pinky promise!" stuff they've been fed for years on end at this point.

Karlsson deal was fine. But, it was basically a situation where the hand was forced and we still gave up what is looking to be potentially a top 10 1st this year or a pick that very easily could be a lottery pick next year.

If Dubas had been proactive this season to make sure that pick was as low as possible, I'd be a lot higher on his decision making. Instead, we've sat on our hands for months and now we are doing the same thing with the Guentzel trade. Just pull the trigger.

The Penguins are probably only going to end up trading Guentzel, Smith and Nedjelkovic at the deadline. And with Smith and Nedjelkovic, I figure it’s not going to be overly difficult to trade them. Neither have notable value.

It’s far more important for Dubas to get as much as possible for Guentzel than to trade Guentzel quickly.

I want Max Roidrage, that kid is gonna be a beast.

Dubas deserves more criticism than he's gotten to be honest.

Dude made ZERO roster moves a ship that started sinking in October. Why is that excusable because he made a single good move in scraps for EK? Defend Dubas saying he needs time to undo Hextall/get his feet wet at the same time as unanimously agreeing that he shouldn't take [his own] time evaluating Sullivan?

Plenty of teams were sellers and Chicago historically was willing to take on bad contracts over the past 18 months. Yet, we've done nothing. Why is that? Dude literally bamboozled his way to owning the entire FO structure yet, defers all decisions through a failed coach? Hmmmm

At this point I've made my own conclusions on that because what else can you do: It's either that Sid is vouching for Sully like he did for JMFJ and/or Dubas had no intentions of competing this year because he wanted Keefe the whole time. The more we fail the more he gets to put his fingerprints on this team by selling everything off AND firing Sully once his guy comes available. But yeah who f'n knows.

* We're here, this team [still] absolutely sucks. We're a bottom feeder with a gem to trade. As any bottom feeder should do - we should sell everything but I'm not getting hopes up that we sell anything more than Jake for players I won't remember in 6 years and Ned.

Rorabaugh is posting old internet beauties. Putting this here for the vibes - hopefully Dubas gets back better value than Armstrong a shootout specialist and two busts.

True 100%

But at the end of the day, when some of us where saying to gut and rebuild/retool, some of you where saying it's not right and as long as Sid-Geno-Letang are here we need to go all in.
So we can't complain now that he pulled that trade that also got us to move out Petry and Grandlund's contracts
