I am officially worried. I'd be shocked if we pulled off more than 2 trades. Certainly not big or complex.

I feel like Dubas is going to find out teams are not all that willing to part with their young players.

Deadline is tomorrow. I wouldn’t worry about any of it, TBH. The guy makes trades and there are obvious guys to ship out. Jake is a toss up, IMO.

I think if the offers made sense, they would consider Rust. No doubt teams are like "heeeeeey, we have a thiiiiiird!"

He has more value to us than his likely return
We might also be able to get more for him when there’s less term on his deal. Like next deadline.

Would you guys do Carter back to Philly for Ry Jo and a pick. He has 1 year left at 4 million, he can get a lot of minutes and can be used as an asset also next deadline. ( Assuming he isn't claimed )

Thoughts?

Depends on the pick.

The hard thing for me to judge is how much the extra years would dampen the return.

If he only had a year left after this, I think he'd bring back quite a bit. Like close to a first. But paying him decent coin for the next 4 years as he transitions into his mid-30's is a lot to ask.

Guentzels are much harder to find than Rusts.

Sell. Them. All. Steal players back in the Summer with the cap space you create. There isn't a single player on this roster with any heart or drive - and even if they had it, there isn't much to be proud of in the way of game-changing (skill/grit/catalyst type player mold - i.e. Hagelin). Zero reason to keep anything here bolted down or not. I'd go so far as saying Sid/Karlsson are the only two you should keep and start over.

Frankly our only hope is that he Leafs falter and we hire Keefe - because otherwise Sullivan is going nowhere and we'll all have to pick a new team to watch.

- TSN Overdrive took bets on Sid playing for another team. 2/3 said 100% (with caveats) that he would. One said 0%. But what stood out is when Hayes, who is a reasonable person by most accounts, said he thinks Sid is going to be sitting down this Summer and FINALLY realizing how much of a dumpster fire this org has become (in lesser words)....and how can I argue with that? Yeah he's competitive, and because of him actually training hard while the rest of the folks (Rust, Geno, Letang, etc.) do NOTHING to improve/change their games - he's the only one doing a damn thing about our place in the standings. Maybe after missing twice in a row he looks around the league and starts imagining a different future? I wouldn't blame him a bit. The only thing is that if Sid leaves this god forsaken team before Sullivan I will genuinely quit on them too. I cannot stand another year of that turd behind the bench pushing out ZAR protypes for 45 minutes a game.

If they are going to trade Eller, I don't think RyJo is a terrible idea since pretty much all of the Pens NHL-ready prospects are non-C's.

Not sure why Philly would want Carter if they don't want RyJo, though. Especially enough to also give up a pick.

Talk about reclamation projects ...

I'd be f***ing stunned into speechlessness if Sid ever played elsewhere, but I wouldn't hold it against him.

If asked last Summer, I would as well.

But again, he's the only player in the entire organization working hard (not even Sid standard hard) to improve himself each year. He wasn't stupid and knew our goal scoring was going down this year and that's what he focused on for the first half of the year. Meanwhile it's straight decline for the likes of everyone else in their 30's.
- When is the last time Geno actually drove play or tilted a game? 3 years ago?
- When is the last time Rust actually had a game changing impact? Playoffs 6 years ago?
- Letang? Has he worked one second on, idk, game film and not being an absolute mouth breather in critical moments?

On and on.

So yeah, you take historic performer and historic gamesman, have him miss two straight years (during his best-buddies prime...so he trains with a guy who gets to talk nothing but playoffs and excitement, and another guy on an old team himself talking about historic seasons), and think that he's just outright stubborn? He's got to know both his value and his compete level are still top notch....and he controls where he goes. Idk folks...there's a LOT of Tom Brady'ness going on here and that org turned on him just as the Pens are with Sid. More loyal to a coach and front office.

Yeah he'll "always be a Penguin wear the sweater etc" - but he'll never sniff the playoffs again in his career so long as we have Sullivan and Sullivan-esque rosters.

LeBrun just sent out a tweet saying 6-7 teams are still in on Jake. Said he doesn’t know all of them but that Vegas, Carolina, Florida and Vancouver are all in the mix to varying degrees. He noted that Carolina’s offer would be prospect based, Vegas still has their first round picks this year and next year and that Florida needs the price to soften. He also mentioned a Van-Pit-Bos three way deal is still a possibility.

this idea Sid is out training the world and Malkin and Letang and the rest of the team (pro athletes) don’t work hard is asinine. Letang is a known workout warrior and Malkin is from Russia where they skate 100x a day. All things considered he’s aged incredibly well. Rust is 32 scoring at a 30 goal 70 point pace for $5M.

They’re just old and not as good anymore you jabronis.

Dude should have gotten a pick for Ned at this point. Take literally 1 hour away from Jake and get that done. Should be the easiest deal of the deadline.

There is no rush on it.

We play tonight - are they scratching half the team?

No reason not to start clearing house. We can say there's no rush when you've got a couple pieces to move - but tasks mount up the longer you wait. In the most conservative stretch I can think of:
- Ned
- Jake
- Ruh
- Smith

Four trades that need to get worked out. Two are pretty complex in Smith/Guentzel. Low hanging fruit in Ruh/Ned. If we're opening the doors even a crack - we can talk Eller, Acciari and Pettersson.
