Have we heard anything on our other guys besides Guentzel?

Smith, Rakell, Eller, Petterson, Ned, etc

Dubas is overplaying his hand 100%.

Carolina, New York, Vancouver, and Vegas are the teams involved.

I don't think he's overplaying but really weighing what's best.

Florida 'involved' is chess trying to lower the price on Pacioretty.

....I'll go ahead and say if it's not two bonafide stud prospects from Carolina - we should really consider a roster player and 'lesser' prospect instead. I still love the idea of Kakko+ over the likes of two prospects. The FA pool this year blows and so do the rest of our trade pieces. I'd cash Jake in to plug two holes and go from there. You can get draft capital from the likes of Ned, Ruh, Smith, Acciari, Eller, etc. Use Jake for your roster player AND prospect imo.

Hopefully he's just being patient and waiting for someone to cave, but we'll see.

The more I read up on Carolina's prospects the more I hope he ends up there. Some really interesting guys in their prospect pool.

Unless you’re like one of the top 2 guys in a FO it’s literally impossible to know who’s playing what hand much less who is overplaying or underplaying it. We know nothing, including if the whole “get it done tomorrow” deadline was legit or not.

I think Jake stays here till the end of the year. I don't think he will resign in the summer. Just hunch

Man don’t turn into a trade board doofus

I'm not. Dubas is a terrible negotiator and we've seen it for nearly a decade.

At some point he needs to pull the trigger on Jake otherwise he is not going to have time to move anything else.

Same thing happened this summer with Jarry. He waited until the last minute and we ended up signing him for exactly what he asked for.

I thought trading Jake would be the easy part. Rentals like Jake get traded every year. You get a 1st, a goodish prospect, and maybe some other crud piece. Ez pz. Everyone is happy cause its better than letting Jake walk for nothing. I thought that deal would be done last week and we'd all be sitting around sweating about the 5 or 6 other deals that need to be made to clean out this roster and bring back the assets needed to rebuild....

But Jake isn't done, and even if it gets done, it just makes all those other trades less likely to get done...

Well, those guys are all real important players to this team...and I just think, I think when I met with Kyle this morning and we discussed our options going forward, the consensus was that we felt like, we felt like our best options were to keep them here for this final stretch. We still have a lot of hockey left and I think the mindset of this group going forward is the same as it has been and that is we want to push for the playoffs. That's always been the goal. And to answer your question [by not answering it] we feel the best way to do that is with the roster we have.

"Any thoughts on the grinder coming back for Jake?"

We really like his game. Jake was a key guy for us and we are not going to ever replace Jake (eye contact), but the [incoming grinder] brings a special element to the game and will fit in real well with what we have going here. He's especially good on the PK, can drive the other team back and impose his will at times.

We have no clue what’s been offered / rejected.

What we do know is, based not only on media reports, but also off-season comments and roster construction, is that the Penguins likely don’t want a futures package. Those are usually what you get for a top tier rental. If it was the standard 1st+prospect, yeah it would be done by now.

But it’s not. He needs good nhl players. That’s the mandate. And this trade sets the tone for the next 3 years. Like it or not. He has to get this perfect.

I understand that, but at some point you need to take what is available.

Every team that is rumored to be involved besides Carolina has made alternate moves. At this point Jake is luxury for Florida, Vegas, NYR, Vancouver.

Carolina is the type of team that will not over pay. And DW has already robbed Dubas once in a trade (Marleau + 1st (Seth Jarvis) for nothing).

Dubas is also handcuffing us from a cap situation. We could easily be eating some bad contracts or getting picks for helping retain salary if Jake and another player was out already.

Pixies is tired of cosplaying as HOG with the psychotic obsession with Sullivan and has moved on to cosplaying as Pens x, stamping his feet and bitching about the GM.

I hope he has the good sense and mandate to settle for good picks if the alternative is meh prospects. Even if the mandate is to reload for next season we're better off with a couple 1st rounders to trade on the draft floor than the likes of Podkolzin and Mikheyev.
