I'm talking about the recent front office in the past 4 years. It's very comparable to the Pirates and their strategy of a quiring players. Can't really compare cap and no cap, but the Pirates have an internal cap they adhere too. Instead of getting actual players with talent, they grab a bunch of free agents veteran fodder and lesser prospects hoping to hit one for cheap. This is what Dubas and the penguins have done.
Id love for the pens to sign an aged vet like McCutchen, Tellez, or last year Santana. Or hitva Cruz or Rodriguez.

Pens can't compare to the Pirates success

Yes it hurts to say that with a serious face

Look, I’m not gonna guess what happened over the summer or during the season. Maybe they tried and jakes camp wouldn’t talk, maybe they didn’t try. No clue.

But it’s entirely possible that Jake goes to Carolina, finds the grass isn’t greener, and wants to come back.

Conditional seventh-round pick (2027)

For Hellberg....meh.

Nothing of value for Hellberg (also nothing of value really).

"I think we showed that in the Summer [we believe in this group]"

Dude, you can MAKE IN SEASON MOVES HOW f***ING STUPID ARE YOU DUBAS

Honestly, he's flat out lying. No different than Hextall. He wants, badly, to tank this f***ing team so he can sell it and rebuild to his Soo boys. No other rationale for looking at this dog meat roster construction and making ZERO moves. f*** you man.
"We believe in this group" has become the new idiotic catchphrase around the Penguins.

Because it signifies either you have no clue how to fix things and have to save face, or you're delusional and can't recognize a fast sinking ship when you see it. Neither bodes well for the future.

Honestly, good for Jake for being like "Yeah, f*** this shit. I'm off this sinking ship asap."

Never had legit discussion on an extension with the Penguins beyond the team approaching his camp and being told it'd have to wait until after the season.

Dude was OUT. Boosts my respect of the dork quite a bit tbh.

meh, i mean it's hard to be excited on TDL day when your team is a big turd on ice.
big diff between
"what did we get that might push us into contender status..."
vs
"what did we get on today's fire sale..."

I like him more than Jarry, so I certainly wouldn't mind that.

But it seems he's priced himself out of Pittsburgh with his play this year.

So now we're likely just letting him walk.
Ned has been a solid back up but the way he's been used has been idiotic, if they don't plan to re-sign him and then didn't trade him at the deadline, that's a major f*** up on Kyle's part. I don't think Ned has been better than Jarry though, I won't go down that path of stupid rationale.

He should of moved Jake as this team isn't going anywhere. The key is if these assets we accrued amount to something.

Yep. Pretty much confirmed it was his choice to move Jake.

Yeah for folks wondering he walked away from the question about negotiating with Jake quickly. Wanted no part of that and wanted options going forward.

Don't forget the first minute of the presser talking about guys' values this Summer and next deadline. Dude has zero intentions of building a competitive team and probably loves Sullivan here as a result. Gives him every excuse to just run the shit to the ground.
