The team that trades the best player, often loses the trade.
I'd give Dubas a C grade. He got what he could for an upcoming UFA. Do I wish it was more? Yes. I wish they had gotten a 1st round pick instead of a conditional one, but it's not the worse return.
Ponomaryov seems like he's ready for the NHL and from what I've read he seems like he's going to be a regular in the NHL. The question is, where? Will he be a 2nd line player, will be a third line player, will he be what McCann was for us and be a tweener. I guess time will tell, but he seems like the most promising player in this trade.
Koivunen seems like he could be an absolute steal or bust. He seems like a guy that is either going to be a really good top-six player or a guy that plays a handful of games in the NHL then leaves for Europe in a couple years. Once again, time will tell, but he's probably our second best prospect as it stands right now.
Lucius I have no clue, but it seems like his ceiling is a bottom-six player. Bunting is what he is, he'll probably play alongside Crosby. Which means Rakell or Malkin will find themselves being inefficient with Malkin again. Overall, this trade only works if the team can actually develop these guys. My biggest concern with them moving Guentzel was getting a guy like Koivunen, where it's a prospect that has hardly played in the AHL. The Penguins aren't known for being able to develop talent. They've had some guys that obviously have come along and have done well. Guentzel, Rust, Sheary, Dumoulin, Jarry, Murray; but That's a handful of guys in the past 19 years Crosby has been in the league.
