Looking at Caps and cap situation, They have real issues here. OVI is not aging well and Backstrom is done. Carlsson is not close to what he was. In short they will have to rebuild big time. Pens as well but at least in Karlsson, Rakell, Rust and Bunting, Petts Pens still have players who are capable of playing well.

The cap shouldn’t be an issue for the Caps

I don't think Stamkos could be 3C for this team. If we got him it'd be as a winger and PP specialist.

Id rather go after Laine and let Stamkos stay at his natural position and rack up points beside Kucherov. I am unsure if Stamkos would thrive here.

Stamkos's natural position is center but he has not been a full-time center for several years now. So, left or right wing would be his likely position with us. I only mentioned the 3C thing in case one of our young centers did not step up. It is an option, no more no less. Just as moving Stamkos back to center is always an option for Jon Cooper, one that he rarely takes.

Anyway, I am fairly confident in saying that Stamkos would thrive far more than Laine would under Sullivan in Pittsburgh.

That is the main reason why I would not go hard after Laine. Because he has bust written all over him under Sullivan. Could he be the next Phil Kessel? Yes. Unlikely, though.

Caps will begin the slide here. Pens I believe with a couple smart moves is far more capable of being a playoff team and go from there. A full season of St Ivany, Bunting, a healthy Rakell, Letang and Acciari and of course whoever Dubas adds is a playoff team to me. The last 2 years they weren't. But adding some size youth grit and a rebound by Graves and Jarry

Graves I could see rebounding but Jarry is who he is…we’ve seen it for numerous seasons now…anyone counting on him playing better post-January is fooling themselves…get better goaltending and this team has a chance with a few moves

Sullivan is not the issue. He brought us 2 cups. The roster is the issue. Trade Poulin, Eller and Acciari. Get Guentzel and pay him whatever he wants.
???

Oh and in re: to Geno looking... um... a BIT on the rough side. I guess I'd rather have lost a little up top rather than put on a bunch all the way around...

He’s Keith Tkachuk-maxing.
