Sure seems like Sturm is going to be the new SJS HC. Which would be a good hire by them IMO.

I would love to see a solid answer re: Vellucci, as well. But I don't think he has a contract.

He re-signed August 2022 for 2 years, so I am guessing he has 1 final year left unless he was a UFA coach when we re-signed him in which case he's going to be a UFA.

Honestly Carter doesn’t seem like he’d be a bad PP coach. Or a guy like Wayne Simmonds, who was good on the PP in his heyday but in a very meat-and-potatoes way.

Vellucci and Hennes were specifically named in the release put out by the Penguins announcing the Quinn hire.

They could hire an additional assistant. Teams are starting to run with four assistant coaches. Columbus has four under Pascal Vincent. The Devils still have four listed under Sheldon Keefe, though some of those are holdovers.

I think they can still only have three assistants on the bench. But Todd Nelson, interestingly, has coached from the press box before as a power play specialist in Dallas. He's still coaching in the AHL with Hershey in the conference finals.

Adding someone like Nelson, even in just a specialized role addressing the power play, would at least show a desire to bring in new ideas to fix the biggest issue from the past season.
