i think dubas knows our future goalie is already in the system. and feels jarry is good enough till he gets here. to overpay for a goalie that might get us a few more wins but it will only drop us down the draft order. he feels it's just not worth what you feel it is.
Try a Jarry trade for GIbson, one extra mil, whop-dee do.
If it doesn't work, oh well Pitt boy, it's not your pathetic team in front of you, and vice versa.

Ned was exposed as to who he is in the WC tournament, no point in overpaying to bring him back.

Of course, there's the perfect tandem of DeSmith/Nedeljkovic that someone closely related to both dreams of.

So glad he wasted a year then going after a lot of 30+ aged UFAs for Sullivan last season…lol

I hope he’s selling every non core vet that he can then…if it’s not bolted down on the ship, toss it lol

His. Entire. Career.

You can not build around inconsistency.

That's how you have a playoff team all year lose for a month to miss playoffs by a single point. And then have that guy letting the goals in insuate it isn't his fault cause he's been hurt half the year... Again.

f*** that shit dude. Talent don't matter when you are outplayed by a backup at the very moment you need to carry the team.

He's a worse MAF, and MAF was trash.

I would be on the give the guy a chance train, if he were 23. He's 28. He's only got a few more years left in the league at goalie. How many guys are legit better at 30+ than mid20s in this position, today?
Jarry is worse than MAF for sure and I wouldn't hesitate to trade Jarry if it brought back a good asset.

However, the cap is much higher now than when the Penguins gave Fleury his big contracts and the average quality of goaltending in the NHL has gotten worse. There are probably only 10 of 12 goalies you can count on to be consistently healthy and better than Jarry.

Statistically, the best UFA options are Brossoit, Stolarz, Talbot, and Pickard. If you go into the trade market your are competing with the Leafs and the Devils for Markstrom who is barely (if at all) more reliable the Jarry. I don't love the idea of giving up assets for a 34 year old goalie with mediocre numbers last year and bad numbers the year before that in hopes that he can repeat his 31 year old season. Keep in mind that's the top end of the trade market.

It would be nice if there was a legitimately reliable upgrade of Jarry available. I'm not convinced that player is out there to be accquired

Idk if anyone was convinced Ned would provide similar stats to Jarry but here we are. Again a backup making a fraction of what our ‘starter’ is. You go Ned/FA/Blom and you make it work. And it’s cheaper. And if it fails.. well it would have with Jarry anyways.

That might as well have been me talking because Dubas is saying exactly what I want. This is why I am more optimistic than some here. This is the plan, this should be the only plan. Keep the core. Trade veterans for picks. Start incorporating top prospects and young players into the lineup. Learn from the HOFers. Try to win something before they are all done.

This should have been done years ago, because it would have been easier to complete. But it is not impossible because the four guys we have are not typical for their age groups.

This is going to be a lot easier said than done, though. And I am not even talking about making the playoffs and going on a run (eventually). I am talking about trading talent for prospects and picks.

I have always felt there are deals out there for Smith, Jarry and Eller. We just have to want them. Sounds like Dubas wants them now.

The issue for me is who else can we move? Rakell? His name is out there but I would be shocked if he can be moved without retention or without taking back a bad contract. Think Rakell to Montreal for Josh Anderson. That type of deal.

Can we get something for Noel Acciari? I am fairly certain we cannot get anything for Ryan Graves. Are they going to trade instead of qualifying Joseph? Can Bemstrom be thrown into a deal or will they qualify him?

That leaves one more player: Pettersson. I don't know what the plan is for him. I know this much: I want Erik Karlsson on this team, therefore I want Marcus Pettersson on this team. One of the most underrated positions in hockey is the complementary D-man to an offensive stud D-man. So, despite all this talk of going young, if I am Dubas I am keeping Pettersson (unless it becomes crazy dollars talk).

Ryan Lindgren is an RFA this summer. I have to believe the Rangers are going to sign him fairly quickly to a new deal. I think Lindgren is a decent comparable to Pettersson. I do not believe Pettersson should get more than Lindgren on their respective next deals. Lindgren is younger and a bit more consistent year over year, IMO. I think we will have a better idea about what it will cost to re-sign Pettersson once Lindgren re-signs.

Very interesting article.

" I need to acquire more draft picks after trading a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to finish worse than the Adolf Hextall Penguins".

What a plan.

If we "want as many young players and draft picks as possible". Why do we care about literally anyone besides the big three being on the team?

If you are following that model, bleed every asset you can out. Don't include Bryan Rust in the conversation of players that "set the standard" of what we need.

More quotes from this clown ass.

Can't wait to see the disaster we are in for this summer.

Sounds like we are planning on qualifying POJ.

No big name / term signings in UFA.

Doesn't seem like Blomqvist will be on the roster next year.

Mike Sullivan integral part of the hiring process for his assistant. So whenver the assitant fails we can blame him unsurpisingly. We all know it'll be David Quinn.

Yeah, Taylor’s article wasn’t particularly inspiring lol

I mean, I get the mindset to some degree. But, at this point I'm wondering if some of these quotes are prepping us for Crosby's departure at the end of this season.

"The key for us is, because of the importance of it and how much Sid means to the organization and the city, we want to keep that as quiet as possible and go through it," Dubas said Saturday while attending the 2024 NHL Scouting Combine. "And then hopefully as we get through this summer, get a sense where everybody's at and then let everybody know at the right time."

Seems really odd way to word your contractual conversation with a franchise legend.

I doubt it but I think it will be a short term contract, probably 2 years…

I was more interested in this quote lol…sounds just like a rebuild:

“I mean, we don't have a ton of positions to fill, and we have a lot of guys internal near the minimum. But I also don't think we're going to be big into the big, long-term, high-money guys. Just with where we're at, we need to try to find players on shorter-term that can come in and and help, but also continue to keep our focus on young players, prospects and draft picks, and trying to get those into the system and expedite things that way."

Kyle Dubas has a plan.

Just ignore he changed it in a year from "if people want to bet against Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Sullivan and others, “they can do so, but I’m going to bet on them”"

To... we need to focus on getting prospects and picks.

Cap up to 88. I wonder if there are any more Graves type players out there Dubas can saddle us with?

That seems like a lot of words to say it's not a matter of if but when they're going to get Crosby's extension done at some point.

Good. I'm glad he's finally being honest with himself. People have been stupid enough to believe the "we're still super duper trying our best to challenge for Cups" shlock the team's been throwing out at pressers for years.

Just along he doesn't re-sign Harkins I'll be happy.

Well, when they sign a 30 year old who scored 2 goals in like 40 games (Wennberg), they'll be getting younger and improving offensively in the bottom-6 at least. Technically correct, and that's the best kind of correct.

This is my issue with Dubas’ comments.

You can’t have Mike Sullivan and get younger. It’s a paradox.

When we inevitably sign a bunch of 28 year old AHL level players instead of playing who we have I will not be shocked.
