Idk I think the thing that f***ed his value is the fact that he hasn't been able to establish himself as a NHLer and is now waiver eligible :dunno:

He's had effectively 3 seasons in the AHL so far and still hasn't shown he is NHL ready. Guys in his situation have minimal to no value, because they don't know if he's NHL ready and they can't send him down for more seasoning.
He is employed by a team that is allergic to playing young guys. That must be considered when criticizing younger guys.

Our coach is allergic to change and young players. Reirden has to stab sully with an EpiPen if too many players under 25 are in the locker room or he’ll break out in hives.

It would be one thing if we ran a great bottom six, but we’ve continued to turn a blind eye to plugs for years, while only turning to young guys when there are several injuries. Simon, Jank for example, shouldn’t have lasted more than 10 games here. I wish we’d be that generous to prospects. Also, I don’t consider playing a young guys with Simon and ZAR six minutes a night a fair shot.

Haha.

It’s so odd that this team cherishes first round picks, but hates young players.
Its fairly obvious at this point that Sullivan isn’t a risk-taker. The fact that this is still surprising to you is strange.

You have Letang, Petry, and Rutta on RD. then Ruhwedel as the swing D so Friedman is the odd man out for now. I think Hextall will make a move later as the season progresses but for now, Unless they can move say McGinn for more cap space, Pens will send down some players at risk from here. Teams claiming POJ can't send him down with out the same exposure of no options left so why bother unless you actually have a need for him.

It’s very possible that both Friedman and POJ clear waivers given the extra year on their contract but there are a few teams with waiver exempt D men making up their top 7 D who could give them both a chance…I think Hextall is holding onto POJ in case a team materializes who wants to trade for him but it’s looking more likely he’ll be put on waivers as well

It’s not surprising, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

I’ve been the one saying Sully would play idiots like Simon and Archibald when many others tried to defend those moves, saying they were simply depth signings that wouldn’t play.

I’d care more about the “not playing young guys” thing if any of our young were any good.

I wonder if it means anything that Friedman isn’t at practice.

Haase was asked that and said no…he could practice either way… but it sure looks like he knows something lol

Being "waived" does not mean that their cap hit comes off the NHL books. They also have to "go" to WBS/AHL/ECHL. Pure smoke and mirrors stuff right now.

it doesn’t but they will need Friedman’s cap hit off the book by 5 pm Monday…

also, does this mean he’s playing from Game one…or just that aren’t any good options for the Pens lol…?

The Penguins are basically all established players. Pretty hard to have a "breakout" candidate from that group.

Ty Smith likely getting sent down, at least to make the team cap compliant. We'll see about actual opening night.

Probably still will be trying for a trade, most likely of POJ…if not, I still could see POJ being waived once other teams rosters are set

Penguins twitter is skewering Hextall for cap management because we can only ice a 22 person roster.
Outside of not signing Kapanen, I'm not sure that he had many options to have space for 23 players.

It's easy for us to suggest a trade, even as a cap dump. But 1/3 of the league is still over the cap. That limits your options and puts you at a distinct disadvantage. And then there is the likelihood of having to to add assets in the cap dump.

So, sure, trade Pettersson. But what if that means trade Pettersson AND a first round pick for a 7th? Not as attractive anymore.

I honestly don't see the issue with it.
