No surprise coach steel here said it all along Archi is here b/c he plays a different game than the guys behind him and brings play that we lack.

He might not be the best at it but he does his job well, if one of those other guys can step up and play that way or give Sully a reason to move him out the opportunity is yours

If Rutta's any good/comfortable at LD, I'd play him and Petry together. Been saying it since he signed. Keep Petts down the lineup, imo.

If Rutta's not nearly as good/comfortable at LD, well, then you've got no choice. But I don't really want Petts being the insulating defenseman for a Petry who has a notorious reputation of being stupid and lazy.

I think Rutta played LD while playing with Hedman. I think he has shown he can do that.

Speaking of Hedman, I just learned he's 6'6" and 240 lbs while scoring at over a PPG and being a phenomenal skater. Dear lord, he's literally the perfect defenseman

Yeah, Hedman--when healthy--is a f***ing freak of nature.

I'm even more curious about Rutta playing on the 2nd pairing now. Petts does not inspire a lot of confidence in me. But I think moving Petts down and playing Rutta at 2LD sort of f***s with the whole glut of LD too, pushing Smith or POJ out of the lineup and forcing a weaker guy like Ruhwedel or Friedman in.

He's also a LD himself so I doubt Rutta was playing RD with him.

Bro... you cant sit here and post like that  Nobody has wanted Sully fired more than I did after being swept. We can't change that at this point. He will be the coach.

I've been very clear. Please follow along.
I wasn't casting aspersions at you, I can't keep up where everyone sits on every topic. I was simply using your post to point a huge finger.... and i do mean singular finger, at Sully.

I am legitimately curious to see how they become cap compliant. With how they're using the defense, it doesn't seem like sending Smith down is really in the cards whatsoever. It would be really bizarre for the team to run with Smith-Rutta non-stop without even looking at Rutta-Ruhwedel as a pair, only for them to send Smith down and run with Rutta-Ruhwedel to become cap compliant. But I don't really see another option outside of sending Smith down that doesn't risk losing a player.

Especially after losing Zohorna to waivers, I think Hextall will be much more hesitant to waive a player to get them through waivers. I think Ruhwedel would assuredly get claimed and Friemdan might get claimed.

I think they want to get smith as much time as they can and it doesn’t matter. They know what ruh brings. They dont need to try it out. It’s not like he ever really had a consistent partner in his while time here

Maybe they're taking a good hard look at Smith before they decide what to do with him.

Then again, last game left....feel like the looking time is over. This should be a dress rehearsal for regular season. So if this is the lineup they go with, that's what I'd expect to be game 1 lineup.

I’m sure whatever it is people will go crazy.

Damn. Lots of good players better than Z or POJ being waived.

Yeah I just posted that in the other thread. Really surprised to see Janmark and Johnsson waived.

It's less about what Ruhwedel brings and more seeing if Rutta can play LD comfortably.

I don't think Ruhwedhl would get claimed. He's never really done much outside of Sullivan's system and doesn't have much upside at this point.

He's a reliable NHL body and has shown he can be off for months and still look solid when he gets in the lineup.

He would absolutely get claimed because numerous teams have worse #6 defensemen than Ruhwedel.

The opportunity will remains his (regardless of how poorly he plays) until he gets injured or he’s include as a cap dump in a trade.
