I didn't know he was that big. I knew he was definitely large, but not a monster 6'6" and 240 lbs large.

The weight might have been shocking but I'm surprised anyone's shocked that Hedman's 6'6. That was literally his calling card at his draft (though he was more twig-like back then at like 220 lbs.).

Bringing this post in from the GDT to a more appropriate location

The Pens f**ked this up royally but they absolutely should not waive POJ if there’s no trade for an asset….imo, waive or trade a forward w some value like Blueger or McGinn and go with 12 forwards…if someone gets injured, they can possibly get an emergency call up or play a D on wing or go with 7 D….if they have to waive Dmen, they should waive Friedman…Ruh is too valuable to them, people saying otherwise are misinformed…

if they don’t waive or trade a forward, then Smith must be sent down, regardless of whether he’s their best roster choice, and Friedman should be waived…end of story…that’s the best use of assets

Honestly, I think this is exactly what they should be doing. Trade POJ for another depth D and waive Friedman and see if you can slip him through waivers. There are going to be better defensemen than Friedman on waivers and it's not like Friedman has done so exceptionally well that he's at high risk of being claimed.

I don’t think they’ll be able to trade POJ which was part of the point of the post…if that’s the case, it’s better asset management to wait, hold on to him, waive Friedman and send Smith to WBS to start the season than it is to put a young player like POJ on waivers..

But that begs the question of if you can't get anything of value for POJ anyway, why do you care about waiving him?

I don't think POJ's value is high enough to warrant holding onto him and seeing if you can flip him for more. You're at best getting a 4th and a replacement D for him.

His value might be higher if they played him a little, maybe w Rutta on the third pair…if his value doesn’t improve, you can always waive him later once rosters are set…right now, teams that might interested won’t offer anything because they think he might be waived… I don’t think he played that poorly that he shouldn’t get even a 6th round pick but they may need him to start the season in Pitt and play, something they should have done more of last season…the Pens are the ones that f**ked his value

Idk I think the thing that f***ed his value is the fact that he hasn't been able to establish himself as a NHLer and is now waiver eligible :dunno:

He's had effectively 3 seasons in the AHL so far and still hasn't shown he is NHL ready. Guys in his situation have minimal to no value, because they don't know if he's NHL ready and they can't send him down for more seasoning.

Agree…so if you don’t know, play him a little more…hopefully he shows a little something and they can get something in return…should have been done more last season imo

Poulin and Lindberg sent to Wilkes
Roster sits at 24 but I think we’re still $1.3M or so above the cap…can’t have a 23 player roster unless Blue or McGinn gets traded

Why don’t we have a very rigorous scrimmage with no gloves or shin pads. Easy LTIR
although it might be Sid or Jake or Jarry or Geno…no, someone has to accidentally elbow McGinn in the head…

If rosters are due by Monday, you'll have to waive players by Sunday to be able to send them down.

I think we see a buttload of names hit waivers today and tomorrow. Curious to see if there are any Penguins players on it.

This is from a poster elsewhere…lol

“I'll also note, Elliott Friedman called PIT waiving Friedman "the worst decision of the day," meaning of the players waived. Friedman seems to think he's going to get claimed.”

Lol. What? He said that because his name is Friedman.
