1st this year, Pickering and a conditional 1st in 2025 (lottery protected). That's better than the Sens' offer.

And as far as that price being too much, the only part that "hurts" would be the 2025 1st because the other two were likely going to be part of the package no matter what. And with this team's core, the 2025 first does nothing for us for the rest of our window.

But we don't know that because maybe Arizona really values the fact that Ottawa's 1st has a very real chance of ending up a top-10 pick in a stacked draft class.

I would have done those deals or something very similar to that (probably not 3 1sts but not too different), but I'm not going to claim 3 late 1sts is a better package than 1 high 1st and 2 2nds.

Burke just said on his radio show that they aren’t paying these “silly deadline prices and will only make a deal if the price is reasonable. He said if the prices are too high for a player they want, they are happy staying put.” Lol, what a joke
Burke: "You will take a 3rd round pick and a D-level prospect for your star player and like it. Otherwise, we're content to go into the stretch drive with our mediocre roster! Joke's on you."

So up the ante? Everyone knew that a 1st was going back regardless, so try and beat the two 2nds with a better second part of the deal.

I just don't understand not wanting to pay a price for someone you want, especially with *this* club where draft picks that likely won't matter until 4 or 5 years down the line are involved.
Anyone drafted this year will not make the team for that long.

When that happens, we don't just need franchise players. We will need complimentary players. The kind you get with mid-first and second round picks.

The “Pens can’t touch Carolina anyway” is a pure cope. Pens couldn’t touch Washington in 2017 without Letang either but they found a way despite being largely outplayed. Pens aren’t even that far away to having a punchers chance.

The Penguins in 2016-2017 were the 2nd best team in the regular season.

The Penguins this year are at serious risk of not even making the playoffs.

This is the only excuse. And if it is an excuse pay a team to take Blueger.

Or any number of options leading up this time of year.

This is why I keep harping on his day-to-day management of the roster. He could have been creative with LTIR. He could have moved Kapanen, McGinn, Heinen, Blueger, etc. before their extended slumps truly cratered their value.

Instead, nothing.

Where we are in the standings isn't much higher than where Ottawa is. I don't know why people make it sound like Ottawa's picks will be in the top 10 while ours are going to be 25+ range. You're looking at the difference between like 12th overall versus 16th or 17th overall.

The other picks I will debate whether ours will even be later since Ottawa is improving and we're getting worse.

Hextall better have a surprise deal up his ass because if all he does is acquire JT Miller for POJ or Pettersson what a joke of a season this is.
I mean that’s a pretty seismic deal.

But also would just as likely screw the team as improve it haha

Why would you not give two first round picks for a player that is 24 and helps fill our biggest need on defense?
It's funny you weren't even sold on Chychrun initially.

He's good but I don't think he's worth two first round picks, one of them being unprotected.

There's a reason why so many GM's walked away from this.

People will be upset that we didn't give two first rounders for him.

I still think we can grab some significant pieces and I hope We do.

I was one of Chychruns bigger let's go grab some supporters and would have happily done it for a first and pickering. The two first are a little much
