I cannot see why people hold on to 1rst round prospects that our not in the top 10 picks when 80 - 90 % of them cannot make it in the NHL.. lol

Burke just said on his radio show that they aren’t paying these “silly deadline prices and will only make a deal if the price is reasonable. He said if the prices are too high for a player they want, they are happy staying put.” Lol, what a joke

Hard to believe that some of you guys still defend this idiot Hextall. Have that same energy when he trades a 1st for some moron off vancouver.

With all of the above picks. 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Who gives a shit?

Once again. This is why Tampa has 4 cup final appearances since 2015. They pay to play.

I find it hilarious how much you complain about this team sucking and needing to build for the future, and now you're mad they didn't spend all of the few assets they have on one player.

So up the ante? Everyone knew that a 1st was going back regardless, so try and beat the two 2nds with a better second part of the deal.

I just don't understand not wanting to pay a price for someone you want, especially with *this* club where draft picks that likely won't matter until 4 or 5 years down the line are involved.
What are we going to offer that are better than the 2 seconds?

We weren't going to do a lottery protected first in 2024.

This is why I've turned so harshly on Hextall. He got greedy in the offseason by trying to bring back not just the core, but random bottom six pieces like Kapanen and Heinen. It was a prime opportunity to carve out a space in the lineup to rotate a cast of prospects - a few weeks for Puustinen, a few for Poulin, a few for Hallander, etc - and determine what you have there.

Instead, he spent to the cap, gave them no room for flexibility, didn't utilize LTIR when guys have been out for extended periods, and now has sat on his hands while the team obviously has holes.

I’ll give Hextall two days. But yeah his moves since Petry have been bizarre and completely in line with the “lack of plan” he was criticized for.

I have never done this.

I complain about this team spending assets on players like Garland not Chychrun.

He has bungled nearly every aspect of this season other than signing the core. Needs to be canned this off-season barring some miracle trades now.

Up the ante with what, though? This team has like no assets.

I would have topped out at a 2023 1st, Pickering and a 2024 2nd. Would that have beaten this Senators offer? Maybe, but I wouldn't really claim definitely.

1st this year, Pickering and a conditional 1st in 2025 (lottery protected). That's better than the Sens' offer.

And as far as that price being too much, the only part that "hurts" would be the 2025 1st because the other two were likely going to be part of the package no matter what. And with this team's core, the 2025 first does nothing for us for the rest of our window.

It’s certainly not a crazy but Ottawa is only protecting top 5 pick wise. Sleepy could have offered two 1st round picks plus 2nd.

f*** Hextall. Absolute joke that we didn’t pay that.

What? Ottawa’s 2023 and 24 picks are likely to be higher than ours…we probably offered the same

These guys were brought in to just ride out the last years and conservatively manage the decline. A joke.

Everything Burke says is a piss off. Proud of the team when they play like losers, doesn’t want to pay to improve the team now and in the future?

I'm not defending s*** I'm just being realistic. It's not apples to apples.

Every deadline there's people saying" but we could have offered more"

What were we offering more of?

I would have matched the offer but I wasn't going to give two first round picks, one of them being lottery un protected

Why would you not give two first round picks for a player that is 24 and helps fill our biggest need on defense?
