Detroit's going all-in on Chychrun! :naughty:

Doesn’t make a lot of sense with them giving term to Olli, Walman and Chiarot.

Why Hronek is a great dman for the Wings and under a reasonable deal this year and next, then he's a RFA. It's a good pick up for a team with as many d-woes as Vancouver, especially now with Schenn gone.

Because Vancouver is bad and they don’t need puck moving Powerplay guys.

Mostly the former for me is why I don't like this for Vancouver.

That's a team that should be fully rebuilding, not retooling. This trade reeks of a team that thinks it can contend next year with the right moves. Vancouver has been thinking that way for years and it's flawed thinking.

And yes someone could rightly quote me and make the same claim about the Pens but we have Crosby and Malkin and have won cups before so the situations aren't the same at all. Vancouver has every excuse to rebuild and still wont.

 I was half-joking about Chychrun to Detroit but y'know...

It feels like Chychrun's either gonna go to somebody that isn't listed among the teams noted to be in the hunt at like 2:59pm Friday, or he's gonna be a draft day deal.

JR is gonna JR. Dude's got way too big an ego to hunker down for a rebuild. He's gonna f*** around and have that team finishing like 12th in the West until he pulls one of these and retires:

With Hughes and OEL, you would figure that a defensively responsible defender would be more suitable with one of those two. Acquiring Hronek doesn't do that. I don't understand what Allvin or the management's thought process behind this move is?

By your point of view, no one owes anyone anything in this world. The penguins paid Sid and Sid played.

That’s a valid point of view. A lot of teams are ran that way. Most, probably. The penguins will, one day, be that kind of organization.

The problem here is, for most people, sports isn’t a sanitary transaction. It’s not an emotionless situation where we pay money for tickets, they play, and we go home untouched.

Sid and Geno are a dying breed and the Penguins are perhaps the last of its kind - legacy players who were generational superstars who stayed with one team for their entire careers, a team that kept its core together through every up and down.

For most fans - I’m guessing, based on reactions - that means something to them. They want to see this to the end. Yeah, the team needs a rebuild. Everyone knows this. You’re not some genius for pointing out that they’ve had bad playoffs 5 years in a row. But that rebuild is gonna have to happen at some point, regardless, so it can wait until Sid and Geno retire.

Are we contenders? Nah. Probably a single digit percent chance they can even get to the finals, but if we’re gonna lose, it may as well be with these guys.

Also, not for nothing, the penguins have a lot of problems. Sid and Geno’s line are two of the top-20 in the league by fancy stats. They’re still good enough.
Which is why you stand pat, except maybe for some bargain basement leftover or two, and begin the rebuild with your picks and trades of deadweight for picks and kids in the minors, while keeping the core intact for that last run.

That is what they should do.

The difference between call ups from WBS and lower tier overpriced trade assets makes zero sense for this team.

The Coyotes will just wait until they get what they want just like Sakic did.
They are in NO hurry....

I just find it laughable to suggest we are in the same position as the leafs, tampa etc.

Both of their teams are in their primes, like the pens 5-10 years ago. There is NO team that is in a playoff spot that sells a bunch of players. Never happened and is not happening.

There is very little of value that is tradable on the team. The bottom 6 has been awful this season and overpaid. Kapanen and Mcginn was offered all over the league but as they are massivly overpaid and has been crap noone wanted them. We can not just trade POJ like the leafs traded Sandin as we do not have the depth to do it.
Basically all in the top 6 are untradable and has NTC.

Just insane how some think that Hextall should either perform miracles or just give up on the season and sell everything he can. Pure DELUSION...

Yotes might hate Hextall and his low offer...but he's the only one really lingering it seems.

It really seems like it's down to Pittsburgh or no one for Chychrun at this point. Everyone else has acquired their defenseman already. I also wouldn't assume that the Hronek trade means Detroit will go after Chychrun, they probably sold high on Hronek to give Edvinsson (2021 #6 overall) a spot in the NHL.

Also random time for this:

Think the first part is interesting. Didn't realize there was a limit to how many players a team can retain salary on, so the option being there for Chychrun's deal seems important.

Wish they'd just f***ing trade him already so I could stop paying attention. To the Pens or elsewhere, just move the guy. This has been going on for like a calendar year or more.

Got a gut feeling it'll be somebody throwing their hat in the ring last second like Buffalo or Detroit landing Chychrun, or Arizona just bungles another TDL and is pretty much forced to move him at the draft before his NTC kicks in on July 1st.
