Chychrun and Kane I believe are the only high end players left but Arizona wants both a 2025 and 2026 1st rounders for Chychrun. I don't know if that is lottery protected (let's assume it isn't). It's pretty risky considering 25 is the last year of the core and we don't know how well they'll be playing by then. 2 years is a long time from now.
Yeah, I wouldn't trade those 1sts.

Jimmy R should have traded him last year. Just really poor management. As to Hextall, he did keep the core together and came away with a potentially good roster that simply hasn't worked out. Kap was a bad contract as Hextall was under zero pressure to sign him for that amount. But keeping him was a shot. McGinn is a disappointment but he came here with a nice pedigree. Carter was a massive mistake but i sense it was a take care of my buddy deal. for that he needs to be fired. Petry fits the 3 year plan here and is a RD who can play on the PP and gives the Pens a quality RD. Rutta was a good signing and you can see his difference in the line up.
Poehling is a player who can be a quality 3rd liner is young and has size. Rakell is a really good signing. I think the big hits outweigh the smaller misses. But do agree, he has to go for Carter and going into this season with no F'n cap space. In 2025 off season, Pens will be selling the farm when Sid retires. Multiple picks wont help them then but you have to start somewhere. Pens won the cups with Sid and Geno and others so being bad for a couple is not the worst outcome.

2023 1st, 2024 2nd and Pickering to Yotes.

Chychrun along with a 2023 4th and 2024 4th to the Pens. With an expiring contract or two to the Yotes for cap purposes.

I do that all day long. It was received positively by the Yotes fans in the Chychrun thread.

Huh, didn't figure that. Thanks!
Neither did I. I’m not sure who posted it but a poster linked a capfriendly tweet in here citing that the league agreed to it back in 2013 (maybe around CBA negotiations IIRC).

If they were to retain, VAN would retain on this current years cap hit and the extension. Idk how it works though, if it’s % based or a flat number since the current cap hit and the extension are different figures.

He’s not a needle mover now? He’d be the teams best defenseman this year

Valedictorian of summer school.

Still doesn't transform us into a contender on the level of BOS/TB/etc. now, and doesn't prevent us being a bottom feeder in ~3yrs.

I think he could help, but I do think he's a bit overrated. And I certainly don't want to get in a egregious bidding war. I hope we don't Pony up what I fear we might. But with other suitors involved and the price probably being otherworldly, I hope we lose out. There are still other targets out there.

Right. He's a good player, but what we're talking about (alleged asking price) is way too high to give up for what we'd be getting.

Would anyone here part with Guentzel to acquire a bigger package like Chychrun, Vejmelka, +?
sure, if you aren’t adding much more and have a similarly quality top 6 W lined up to replace him. Which feels way too EA sports NHL

I have no idea why AZ would do it though, he is the type of guy whose value is great to a contender that needs a complimentary player but not a rebuilding team. His numbers and subsequent trade value would tank there IMO.
