The more I think about this - this has to be a plan to play him and Zucker on third line. For every cup win, there was a 3rd line that was productive. Next ingredient in that recipe is firing the coach.
I mean a cup is not happening. However Zucker and Granlund going lights out together would cause some issues for other teams. Eventually Boston or Carolina won’t have any of it.
I don’t know.
Yeah, but then that presumes this wild trade idea was born out of a concept which involves taking Zucker AWAY from Geno, who he has developed chemistry and where he is finally having a signature year with us.
I get the idea of having three scoring lines, and I love that concept, but if it means they’re just booting Heinen up to L2 then we are seriously screwed.
Every way you look at it, this seems like an absolutely lousy deal, unless you have a crystal ball that Granlund is definitely having a career revival here. But the cap hit, the additional years, the diving numbers, etc. it’s all just a massively underwhelming fart.
The thing is still can’t wrap my head around is the money cleared in the last few days to wind up with…this? The bottom six sucked, yes, but somehow we had cleared 6 million and recouped assets for it…only to make sure we carry five million for 2 more years on a long shot bet? It’s like having a garage sale, working hard to sell your stuff to get some cash in your pocket. But instead of buying a new tool or piece of furniture, something that you might need and use to improve your life, you dump it all into buying Amway. Sure, if you squint hard enough, you might see a future where you benefit. But most of the people around you are incredulously asking “wait, you did WHAT?” And making you feel Iike the dumbest guy in the room. And you’re going to be left owning that decision for years.
