Yeah this is 100% right. Also if he were North American he’d get treated closer to that way too.

Messier, for as much as we love him, was by all accounts a giant ******* who demanded teammates be traded (Zubov) and stuff and has tons of incidents like that over his career. He’s a literal god to a Rangers fans.

Lundqvist looks at Neal Pionk any way other than lovingly after Pionk dip ****ted his way to causing a goal against and hes vilified to no end online. I just think considering how good he’s been as whole career and always backing up what he says (demanded excellence of Teammates and always held up his end of the bargain or more) and basically carried subpar teams his entire career, it’s ridiculous that he gets the hate he does.

For the record Smith and Campbell pushed for the Zubov trade. And before them it was Keenan who wanted him traded.

Messier gets brought up a lot in that conversation, and though I started working at MSG about a few months after the trade, it was still a subject that was talked about.

True obviously it wasn’t just Mess, I just know that’s one of the well known instances. Fact is he could be a real asshole, but that’s what made him such a good leader. Demanding excellence of your teammates and backing it up yourself by being great.

He’s one of those guys you see in the AHL, and you look at him against that level of competition and think, “This guy might have a shot.”

Then you see him against NHL completion and you see the differences between the two levels and you’re reminded why he’s in his mid-20s and still trying to crack the code.
Big leap forward
