And apparently Lemieux was of interest to other teams as well.

The key will be his ability to maintain. I feel like every time we get a player like this, something happens that makes the candle burn twice as bright but last half as long.

It would be nice to have a guy like him play that role for a longer period of time.
It’s like these guys are in their contract years or something lol

So, just for kicks, I decided to watch this on every with the sound off — to eliminate any bias due to commentary. Observation so far: a more talented team pressuring an inferior team into bone-headed desicions. Is that about right?

I don’t know if I buy the knee thing anymore. He has looked good the past few stretch of games (not counting this one or the last game). I just think the guy regressed like crazy. Look no further than his time in Washington.

His playoffs were abysmal, but his trade production was on-par to his pre-trade production. But that gets overlooked because of his playoffs and the price the Caps paid.

Even his first stretch here wasn’t awful - he was essentially on a mid-40 point pace.

He's being used as a matchup guy tonight instead of Staal-Pionk and he needs to be sheltered. I don't think he's cooked but he for sure can't EVER stand still

He has no brain...

I still think we should move him to the wing and use him as a Carl Hagelin type
If there’s one defenseman who I think should be moved to the wing (besides Smith), it’s Gilmour. I’m usually 100% against this kind of stuff, but I think Gilmour’s game would translate well to that position. That, and it would also be the last chance to save his career.

He’s going to have to reinvent himself and that’s not going to be easy — especially on a defense that is going to be on rubber legs most nights.

If a center did the same thing, he'd be Messier and nobody would question him. :dunno:
Yeah this is 100% right. Also if he were North American he’d get treated closer to that way too.

Messier, for as much as we love him, was by all accounts a giant asshole who demanded teammates be traded (Zubov) and stuff and has tons of incidents like that over his career. He’s a literal god to a Rangers fans.

Lundqvist looks at Neal Pionk any way other than lovingly after Pionk dip shitted his way to causing a goal against and hes vilified to no end online. I just think considering how good he’s been as whole career and always backing up what he says (demanded excellence of Teammates and always held up his end of the bargain or more) and basically carried subpar teams his entire career, it’s ridiculous that he gets the hate he does.

For someone who is very fast, a lot of people get behind Gilmour

He’s one of those guys you see in the AHL, and you look at him against that level of competition and think, “This guy might have a shot.”

Then you see him against NHL completion and you see the differences between the two levels and you’re reminded why he’s in his mid-20s and still trying to crack the code.
