I think we're going to see some belt tightening this offseason. Teams appear to have been counting on the cap going up, but instead almost half of the league will be carrying over bonus penalties, with Boston leading the way in losing almost $5 million in cap space.
The Penguins are actually sitting pretty in terms of cap space compared to a lot of their contending peers. But it may make it harder to dump a guy like Granlund without adding a significant sweetener. A buyout may actually be easier.
Been saying this for six months. A smart GM can likely get us a Bjorkstrand caliber player for cheap.
Sone scenarios I think could make sense for us..
Gryz out of Boston for a 2nd.
Markstrom and Mangiapane or Hanifin for our 1st plus small cap like Desmith or POJ / Smith.
Arvidsson out of LA for a 3rd and a 4th.
I like the idea of Markstrom and Hanifin for a 1st plus Desmith.
And Arvidsson then you maybe resign Zucker and give Accari or Girgensons a cheap deal. Fill out the bottom six with DOC and Poehling and a cheap vet.
Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Zucker - Malkin - Arvy
Accari / Girgs - Poehling - Rust
DOC - Carter - Vet
Hanifin - Letang
Petts - Petry
Smith - Rutta
