I think we're going to see some belt tightening this offseason. Teams appear to have been counting on the cap going up, but instead almost half of the league will be carrying over bonus penalties, with Boston leading the way in losing almost $5 million in cap space.

The Penguins are actually sitting pretty in terms of cap space compared to a lot of their contending peers. But it may make it harder to dump a guy like Granlund without adding a significant sweetener. A buyout may actually be easier.

Been saying this for six months. A smart GM can likely get us a Bjorkstrand caliber player for cheap.

Sone scenarios I think could make sense for us..

Gryz out of Boston for a 2nd.

Markstrom and Mangiapane or Hanifin for our 1st plus small cap like Desmith or POJ / Smith.

Arvidsson out of LA for a 3rd and a 4th.

I like the idea of Markstrom and Hanifin for a 1st plus Desmith.

And Arvidsson then you maybe resign Zucker and give Accari or Girgensons a cheap deal. Fill out the bottom six with DOC and Poehling and a cheap vet.

Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Zucker - Malkin - Arvy
Accari / Girgs - Poehling - Rust
DOC - Carter - Vet

Hanifin - Letang
Petts - Petry
Smith - Rutta
Friedman

Markstrom
Desmith

I think I’d rather just play Smith than give up assets for Grzelcyk.

If we’re gonna try and fleece Boston do it for Swayman.

So Red Sullivan was this team's first ever head coach in 1967-69. Coincidence?

Is he related to Sully?

Did Pittsburghers in 1967 refer to Red as Sully?

Is this franchise now Sullied for life?

Just try and get John Gibson as a starter here already. What the hell use does Anaheim still need from him?

If he sucks/fails...oh well. No worse than the garbage we had/have.

We got out of the Matheson butt-licker phase...right into the Petry one.
If Sully fails with a proper goalie and the 3 healthy horsemen...goodbye.

If Gibson wasn’t from Pittsburgh, would you still suggest him?

Gibson has an awful contract. I get he’s played behind a bad defense but it seems like a big risk.

I’m certainly not giving up a ton of assets for that.
