Did we figure out how to make a power play with four first ballot HHOFers on it work yet?

At what point does this coaching staff actually start feeling some heat? Obviously nothing will change as long as it's a mediocre .500 team. Sully seems so deeply embedded within the organization I'm starting to think losing 10 in a row wouldn't even put him on the chopping block at this point.

He's right. One thing that has disappointed me is Karlsson's unwillingness to shoot at times. He was firing away last year in SJ. I thought he'd come here, thumb his nose at the "oh I HAVE to give it to Geno to Sid because they WANT it" idea, and shoot his big Swedish heart out on the PP that was sooooo f***ing desperate for that skill set...but alas...here we are.

There's a BIG gap between the "SHOOT!!!" crowd and what the Penguins currently do. That said, the dorks in the stands yelling "SHOOT" are about the litmus test for average IQ right now. The power play is coming down to the exact issues game after game:

1. They don't move enough. They move the puck well along the perimeter but the players themselves do not move enough.
2. When they do skate a stride to take a pass, they are not putting themselves in shooting positions. The VAST majority of the time, Karlsson/Letang/Malkin/Sid are taking the pass so that they can become new PP QB from where they are standing.
3. When they get the pump, they stop skating. They might stride a bit to get away from a PK'er but as soon as there is no pressure, they stop moving and they start looking for the pass. But when you factor in #1 and #2, it becomes a compounding problem.
4. They pass up the shot for pretty passes to make the pretty play. Very rare occurrences that are more often the exception than the rule.
5. They have no net front presence and few players that can penetrate the middle. This keeps them on the outside perimeter.
6. Poor shot selection. When they finally choose to shoot, it's usually not the best selection.
7. Sid, Geno, Letang, and sometimes Karlsson...are kidding themselves about being old and the state of their skill sets. They are still very good players but they are playing like they are 22-23yo. They don't have the same abilities as they once did. The PP was always 100% about the sheer star power overtaking the other team's PK. That used to be a solid bet. Not so much anymore. Like, Sid...dude...those low-percentage cross-ice passes are a f***ing killer...f***ing stop it.

But we see the same exact thing night in, night out, season after season. It's a two part fix. One HAS to be the coaching. The other HAS to be the 1PP players willing to change.

The thing about coaching is though that you can send out the players who agree to play the new way and not send out the players who are not playing the way you want them to.

Like if this team is essentially player-coached, then why bother paying 5 million per to the Dunkin Donut behind the bench?

It's the old rod hockey table top formation. No one can deviate from their pre determined slots on the board!

I'm so glad we've gotten to the criticize Evgeni Malkin and Erik Karlsson part of the season while Sidney Crosby was 100% responsible for our loss last season as his line typically is..
