Assume both Rust and Rakell out:

Jake-Sid-Hinostranza
Smith-Malkin-Zohorna
DOC-Eller-Pitlick
Nieto-Accari-Carter

Petts-Karlsson
Graves-Letang
Shea-Ludvig

I think based on logic and recent play, this is lineup to expect. I could also see them calling up White or Gruden and sticking them at 4C and bumping Accari up to 3RW instead of Pitlick.

i unfortunately think harkins gets the call to look lost again

So Dave Molinari asked Sullivan at the presser today about why L2 has fallen off production wise the last seven games and this was his answer:

“It’s only been the last handful of games that they haven’t had as much of an impact on the game, 5-on-5,” Sullivan said. “I think a lot of it just boils down to small details and collective play, as a group. Sometimes, they get a little bit disconnected, as a line. It’s more when they don’t have the puck, in trying to get it back, whether it be on a forecheck, things of that nature.

“It requires that everybody do their job and there needs to be a cooperative effort there in order to get the puck back. That gives that line an opportunity to do what they do best. So that’s one area where I think (Malkin’s) line can improve. We’ve certainly talked to them about that, showed them some examples of how they can get better.”

Translation: it’s Geno…he’s playing East-West too much lol…

When healthy, he's been terrible this year.

You been watching a lot of WBS?

He’s been the same player he’s been down there the previous year. He has a rough start but has been producing outside of the PP since returning from his injury.

Must be hard giving a shit as a young player when there is realistically no path for you to the NHL, but please tell me how Harkins is a better option, Mike Sullivan.

Funny thing is Ty Smith is performing well down there and based on the news Samorukov is going to be called up before him.

But “performance matters” right..

Bet Geno suddenly looks better without Rakell. Then Rakell gets healthy, we put him there and suddenly they don’t look good again. The Mike Sullivan “performance matters” lifecycle.

So they'll be running with:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Smith-Malkin-Nylander
Zohorna-Eller-O'Connor
Nieto-Acciari-Hinostroza

If Rust is out, Hinostroza slides up to L1 and either Carter or Harkins slides onto L4.

Puus deserves a look. He was solid in preseason and then started banged up in the A with only 1 goal in his first 7 games, after coming back from injury he's 2+2 in 5 games. He also has good chemistry with big Z already.

A player of his pedigree?

Sorry didn’t realize we expected 7th round picks to be dominating the AHL lol.
Sorry, that's what I get for scanning through threads too quickly. Thought you were referring to Ty Smith, not Puustinen.

Ty Smith should be dominating the AHL. He hasn't.

As far as Puustinen, I keep waiting for him to take the next step and he hasn't. He and O'Connor have similar vibes to them right now at their respective levels. The opportunity is there for Puustinen to round out his game; he hasn't. The opportunity is there for DOC to produce; he hasn't.

No one around the NHL considers anyone at WBS to be all that good except for Blomqvist and maybe Poulin. Puustinen and Smith are basically considered fringe NHLers at best. The only prospects worth their salt are Yager and Pickering, with an outside shot of a couple of the Russians. I think we just need to accept that.

Believe it or not, but this team has benefited from giving guys that weren't dominating the AHL chances. It's not like Rust or Sheary were putting up such godly numbers they pushed their way into the NHL. The only forward that's really done that in our pipeline is Jake.

I guess Sully felt safer with those guys having coached them personally. You'd think he'd be more open to the concept considered it's yielded results in the past.

Puustinen took the next step 2 years ago. Very productive in the AHL and got a point in his only NHL game. For a lot of organizations, that would warrant another look. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s just mentally ready to go back home at this point.
Kasper Bjorkqvist scored in his first game.

He's in Finland now.

Scoring a point in the NHL is not a predictor of future success.

As far as Puustinen, he's the same player he was three years ago. There has been repeated talk about him needing to round out his game, to be reliable at all ends of the ice, and he doesn't appear to have done that.
