If Rust was trying to practice and then decided he couldn't go his lower body injury can't be too bad. Wouldn't be surprised if he tries to play through that tomorrow. If it was something serious he wouldn't have even suited up for practice.

i honestly don’t think they sniff the playoffs if they can’t get 5 of 6 points in their next 3 games. There are too many good+ teams in the east, you’re going to actually have to beat some of them.

I think they'll either just make it or just miss. Same shit as last year imo.

Making it probably will be contingent on being able to beat teams that they couldn't beat last year. Early returns on that (L vs NJ, L vs Car) not looking good.

I feel like they’re better than those teams this year (not sure about last year), but they’re still missing *something.* Even beyond my burning hatred of Jarry. The roster is good enough but the spirit is lacking

Maybe if Rust is out, Sully will try a more conservative approach against a Metro team for a change?

And now would be the ideal time for the power play to figure out that goal scoring thing.

I think they're just old and a little bit...perhaps not slow but average in speed. When a game is played more at their speed (like vs Vegas) they're great. Teams that have next level speed like NJ are always gonna give this old team fits.

And the powerplay is losing them tons of points in the standings once again. Can't happen. Shouldn't happen with the talent on it. But is happening.

Ive never been on the fire sully bandwagon (simply because I understand the real world safety “back-to-back cup winner” brings to a coach) but if the pp doesn’t get fixed and they miss the playoffs, especially given how this flawed roster has performed (and Dubas is an analytics guy…), I don’t see how the coach remains.

Yeah if they miss again he should be fired.

Though I don't know where you go from here if they miss again.

Corrections then

Jake - Sid - Hinnie
Smith - Geno - Harkins
Doc - Eller - Z
Neito - Accari - Carter

wooo for grinders and guys "who play the right way"
He tanked the 3rd line when he was here. Good lord don't let that happen. Swap Z up to 2L, move Accari up to W on 3L, and have JC center Neito-Carter-Harkins and play them 6 min per game.

Unfortunately some of the contracts they signed this last offseason really does limit what they can do moving forward, unless they’re willing to pay aggressively to move some people.

If they miss again, does it really matter who coaches them because they’re not sniffing the playoffs again until some young stars get drafted…just reality…so there’s no point until waiting til after the season to fire him…fire him now to try to save the season if they don’t start winning most of their games in the next couple weeks

Honestly the penguins should fire Rierden now or bring in a new pp coach. The power play is at 15% and dropping. They will miss the playoffs 100% if that continues.

Meh Jarry is movable if they want. With all his flaws he still is a top 20 goalie in sv % and goals against. He leads the league in shutouts too. I think Jarry would be a really good goalie in a different system.

Carter is gone next summer.

Graves hasnt been good but whatever.

Eller has been good.

Accari can still rebound.

There arent that many bad contracts.

If Rakell is out longer term, he should go on LTIR so they can make a bunch of recalls. Word is he and Ruhwedel have at least been placed on IR, freeing up roster spots.

I'd recall Nylander for a spin with Malkin and Smith, and I'd also call up either Gruden or Pitlick as a reserve forward with Rust, Nieto and Hinostroza questionable. Pitlick is WBS' leader in points, while Gruden is fine on the fourth line.

I'd also recall Ty Smith and see if you can work him in the lineup with either Shea or Ludvig since both Ruhwedel and POJ are out.

if that was the case. there would be changes in the personal, and that has not taken place. so it falls back on the coaching.

This line of thought is silly. You can break down literally any issue to being the fault of the coaches if you use this flawed logic.

Jarry is playing bad? Sullivan's fault for playing him. A forward line has a terrible defensive game from just being super sloppy? Sullivan's fault for making that a line. This logic goes on and on. At some point, the blame falls on the players, and the powerplay is absolutely at that point.

most of the time it is the coach, if you see deferent things being tried and still not working then you can blame the players.

This is because you're biased and you want to blame Sullivan for everything.

this ones on reirden and not sullivan. also its not biased. they literally have done one change all year. they have only changed from rust to rakell to smith to back to rust. thats not really trying to fix it.

jake has 3 pp points and is killing possesion when he is out there.
