Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

I commend our 5 game win streak, but do be honest, we did face a lot of meh teams during that stretch...Sharks, Sabres, Blue Jackets. Even the Ducks. LA was impressive. Eons ago, I could see us going 13-1 with the competition faced so far.

This was our problem last year, where we kept losing easy points. At least the last 5 games has shown a trend otherwise.

Devils without Hughes, and on a losing streak we need to bury them. At a minimum it will give us a glimpse on how we fare against really fast teams (we couldn't do anything against them last year).

I'm not complaining, as we need to pick up points where we can, we'll see how real we actually are once we face the top 5 teams in the league. To be honest, I'm not even sure who the top teams are this year :snide:.

It's amazing where I used to think about "who are we going to face in the 3rd round" to now being all over the place in my thoughts (ie. from can we win a game, can we beat anybody real, are we going to make the playoffs, are we going to win a round). I can't even think about round 2 anymore :\.

Everyone here had way too high expectations for a team that was like 40% new. Lets see the next 25 games. I'd bet we are no lower than 2 in this division barring major injuries.

The chemistry is finally coming along

Smith-Geno was instantaneous

But Karlsson-everyone took a little, can finally see that connection on the ice

Crosby tip from Karlsson in the Blue Jackets game was a flash of it

If Rakell shows up soon this team will look a whole lot deeper and better. They are pretty much missing a top 6 player right now

If it was me coaching the Pens, I’d play Hellberg today and Ned Sunday if ready because Jarry has played way too much to start the season…he should only be playing 50 games max all season and he’s on pace for like 68 games lol

Canes dropped their first game at home to Flyers a few days ago…Staal had the following to say after the loss:

“Long-time Carolina captain Jordan Staal, who won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins early in his career, called out his team following Wednesday’s loss. Among other things he warned that without everyone buying in, “it’s going to be a .500 club that wins some games and loses some games and (is) kind of ho-hum.”

Sounds just like this Pens team, a .500 club…I’m predicting this game is a get well game for the Canes as there is no team that “buys in” less than the Pens…we’ll make Raanta look like a world beater…lol

Nedeljkovic better not score any empty net goals when he plays for us, Sully will be pissed at him for stealing GCR's thunder. :)

Not if we play Jersey. Too fast and they overwhelm us.

I think we'll look much better tonight TBH. Where I fundamentally disagree with people here is that they perceive the loss to the Devils as us coming out flat, or something along those lines. I don't believe our best game beats them. They're the worst match up we could have. The Canes while not a favorable match up we COULD beat IF we play our best. It's possible.

They’re a bad matchup too, as are the Isles, all for different reasons…all three teams swept us last season…we’ve learned nothing from last season, I’m guessing, and will probably be swept again or will be lucky to eke a couple wins against all three of these teams

First I’ve heard of this…also Jarry in net tonight …no surprise lol

Get back here ASAP, John Ludvig. We need much better options on the 3rd pair than we currently have.

On the bright side Ludvig got through yesterday's WBS game without concussing himself, and he certainly should be in their lineup again tonight.

POJ on IR, Harkins recalled.

Some suspicion Nieto is banged up, too. Harkins likely additional insurance.

Harkins will go down when Ludvig and Ned are activated.

I guess I consider the Devils the least desirable, but you're right, the Canes and Isles are no picnic either. This weekend will tell us a lot IMO.

I'm curious to see if Harkins would play above Carter or not if there was an injury. Hopefully it's a moot point though, I don't particularly want either playing.

Harkins is really nice to have as a boost for WBS but it would be nice to have a better 1st callup from WBS.
