Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

Are changing the lines going to make Jarry be able to stop pucks at a NHL level? Because that is the reason their GF% totals are weak.

Aw shucks.

The team is losing games with the current lines. It's great that Zohorna and Rust are scoring, but the goal of the team is to win, not individual points.
And those two are doing their part. Rust has arguably been our best all around forward this year. The effort and compete level is back from him in a way that just wasn't there last year. Dude was doing secret service saves in the blue paint the last game.

GCRust certainly isn't above reproach, it's just not what I'd point to as to why we're 3-6 (goaltending, bad finishing, coaching, L4/3D)

We can't fix bad finishing or goaltending.

We can try other things with the line-up and hope they help.

It's absurd that people have watched the last nine games and are happy with our forward lines outside of individual efforts, but I guess that's the world of sports we are in. xGF and stats trump all!

I wouldn't say I'm "happy" with the forward lines, I just don't view swapping Rust with someone else on L1 as an upgrade.

Ah. There it is. Nothing to fix at 5v5.

Just keep doing the same thing and we will eventually win games.
From an offensive perspective, top 6 has been fine. L3 has just lately started to get their shit together with Big Z subbing in for Harkins. L4 has literally 0 points through 9 games lol and Sully finally appears to be benching Carter. Like what else is there to change at this point besides giving Hellberg more run or Ruhwedel to the bench (Ludvig )

If the problem with your team is that your goalie can't stop pucks, how will changing the 5v5 lines accomplish anything?

The things that are causing this team to lose games are Jarry being shitty and the powerplay being shitty. How does changing the 5v5 lines change anything with either of those issues?

Guess we can't do anything and we will just lose every game because of Jarry.

Why try to change anything up. We are 20th in goal scoring. We must be doing something right.

Probably Jeff Carter's fault we are 20th in goal scoring.

They could possibly score more goals to insulate Jarry?

We can you know.. stop running a top line that is a net nothing.

It's just crazy to me that you still have people defending him with "but what else can he possibly do? there's only so many options available to him" when all he did was sit Carter and POJ in favor of Hinostroza and Shea, but keep EVERY OTHER LINE INTACT.

Who does that? Who takes a struggling roster and doesn't shake up the lines that actually play 20 minutes a night and instead just swaps out the 12th forward or the 6th defenseman?
Sounds like some people aren't trusting the process enough.

Zohorna-Eller-O'Connor has a 5v5 goals/60 of 4.5, with having 3 5v5 goals in 5 games together. I don't know what that 3rd line is doing wrong that you think it should be broken up.

The only change to that lineup that Sullivan should be making as well is swapping Rakell and Rust. And frankly I'm iffy on that because I really like how Rust has played with Crosby this year.
First of all, Rust looks good this year because he's skating hard and generally looks like he gives a shit. I don't think it has anything to do with playing with Crosby instead of Malkin.

Second, how Rust is playing or how GCRu is playing is only part of the equation. Rakell has 1 point in 9 games and has shown to play better with Crosby than Malkin.

I genuinely doubt this team has the ability to produce much more than they've been producing at 5v5 to start the year.

Well, what other choice do they have?

You have two ways to win in any sport:
a) Outscore
b) Give up less goals

With Jarry playing like Swiss cheese, perhaps beefing up the offense is the key

But whatever they're doing surely isn't working. Would you agree with that?

Stop playing Jarry? Fix the powerplay? Make system adjustments to insulate Jarry better?

One of the few things that is actually going right with this team right now is their top-9's 5v5 production. Why change that up for the sake of making "change" when there are legitimate other things you can change with your actual issues?

This whole argument really just seems to be people making decisions a long time ago on what they want to see and now manipulating the current situation with the team to fit those decisions.

Well we agree kind of.
Those are the issues, but I'm assuming that 1) Jarry will play a ton with Ned injured and 2) The PP will continue to stink and 3) They won't make systemic adjustments

You basically have to idiot proof these lineups bc Jarry and Sully are intent on sinking this team.
