Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

I think, more or less, he said nothing. You don't get younger while having a roster of like 8 guys 30+ locked in for years. Not unless you're gonna perform some serious, major surgery on the roster. And even then, you are gonna draft guys in the ~15th overall range who are more or less universally gonna take like 3-4 years to hit the point of being ready to even challenge for an NHL spot.

It's a buncha words that don't mean shit. This presser boils down to "Sully's here to stay, we're not a bad team just getting bad bounces, we're gonna keep our futures." So, exactly the same shit we've seen since the last Cup until now.

As much as I agree it’s time for change IMO it doesn’t seem realistic to even hope for. Sullivan signed that extension, it hasn’t even kicked in, and it’s out of everyone’s hands here except for FSG.

Dubas didn’t hire Sully and didn’t extend him.

Like I said before, he’s not gonna go into that presser and start ripping Sullivan.
He also made it a point to say how he thinks Sully is the right coach for the long haul to “develop” players.

Kyle Dubas wants Mike Sullivan to be the Pens coach. People can make believe FSG is tying his hands. The truth is much worse. Dubas thinks Sully is a top coach in the league and will keep him here as long as Sully wants to stay.

Reporter: "what is the plan for 2024 TDL and the future?"
Dubas: "To get younger"
You: "Durrrr...but you signed them guys last off season! So like yeah right!"

Like I said, I can't tell if you're trolling or if you're being serious.
So, our track record of using under 26s is stellar huh?

Like no, shit, every team that is old wants to get younger. So do it. Make the moves, don’t just claim a 26 year old nobody or sign Poop party. But the trouble isn’t just age— it’s a style of play that isn’t working for the team, abysmal special teams. That’s the issue— they don’t think those are problems, which means I have no confidence they will rectify them.

You can fix problems you won’t admit you have and that’s what you should be getting from the press conference, as pointless as it was.

And this team will never be a young team with Sullivan at the helm. So either that platitude was a lie or Sully gotta go. They’re not compatible.

Dubas knew the situation going in.

Getting so sick of the Dubas is being held back narrative. Dubas is an idiot. A very highly compensated idiot.
Of course he did.

It does not make the job any easier to say that he knew what he was getting into when hired.

I was not saying it as an excuse as much as saying it to prepare people for more of the same for the next couple of years. Because that is what that dictate means.

The presser was because Sully felt disrespected by people recently. Told Dubas he better remedy this to make him feel better. Hold presser, talk about how he’s awesome and has such a tough job answering media questions.

I don’t know how many fans in attendance are familiar with European football, but they need a crash course and start planning walkouts and unwrapping banners for Dubas to start sacking the coaches and if that doesn’t work, include Dubas on the signage as well.

If the hard hitting Pittsburgh sports media keeps pushing his buttons by asking him questions like "Why are you losing so many 1 goal games?", Sullivan might throw a hissy fit and resign like JR.

People don’t care enough. Also, less people go to games every week.

Honestly this is my outside hope.

Sullivan decides Pittsburgh is holding him back and he wants to take his talents elsewhere next season. It would be so glorious not just for obvious reasons but to then watch whatever poor bastard team he goes to next implode.

Like they want to make this team younger? Easy jettison the trash on the bottom six and pull up whoever from WB/S that isn’t a defensive grinder and is under the age of 25. Who cares if they’re not great? Our team sucks as is.

Bam, you have something meaningful about making the team younger.

But they won’t do it. So why?

Perfectly stated.

This team could have gotten younger any number of ways this past offseason and in-season. They didn't. They will continue not to. No sale.

I thought this was going to happen with Tomlin after this year, but they are working on an extension for him.

I just don’t know what y’all want him to say. They’re going to say he’s a top coach until they fire him. It’s how it works. Look at LA with McClellan. No one is getting up there and roasting the coach or putting him on notice. It’s a small world and you don’t get ahead in it by doing things via the media.

I want him fired. I just fail to see how that press conference is so infuriating.

I asked this at the beginning of this thread but people like to dodge it, so I’ll ask again— do you like watching this team and are you excited to watch it largely as is for the next 5 years? Because that’s what Dubas was telling you here.

Also did I miss Dubas addressing the PP at all? I don’t think he mentioned a word about it but my brain was bleeding out my ears listening to his nerd ass wibble on.
He was asked about it. He said it's obviously not where it needs to be, but he doesn't want to single out any players or coaches. Instead, took accountability and said he's focused on what he can do to help both the players and coaches. So.....

more BS.

We're 50odd games into the season.

The powerplay is historically bad. Literally... it's the worst ever.

Todd Reirden still has a job. And we're over here asking what the GM could do? There's your low hanging fruit!

Hey, some people like getting lied to. I’m not one of them, and I don’t know you well enough to make that claim.

It’s personally more just the creeping dread that this team is just going to be in the worst possible position for years because all involved in making the decisions are delusional or cowards.
