I guess we know why Sully's stuck around so long; he has completely mastered the job interview speak garbage that corpo shitheads lap up.

The Pens missed the playoffs last year. They are missing them this year. Spoiler alert: They ain't making the playoffs, let alone advancing, next year either.

The window is closed.

So, who is coaching matters little at this point. Hence, my analogy of caring who takes over the Titanic after they hit the iceberg.

I am more interested in the job that Dubas does at the trade deadline to see if he is up to the task for a rebuild.

Because whether you have come to grips with the reality or not, the Pens officially are entering a rebuild now.
Spoiler alert: they've had the same coach for the last 9 years.

I just fundamentally disagree that coaching doesn't matter. We've seen it twice with this core group of players how a coaching change can improve things. It's not a guarantee and again, I think a Cup is a pipe dream, but I don't want to give up on the core because of an absurd allegiance to Mike f***ing Sullivan.

Get a new coach, make some roster adjustments, and give it another go next year. If they miss the playoffs again, I'll join the calls for a rebuild.

Here's the full quote to roll your eyes even harder to.

What a dork ass loser.

So he wants a pat on the back for falling behind by multiple goals?

Well done, Mikey.

100% agree with all of this! And yes, This deadline is crucial.

The coach might matter IF the core were 10 years younger, but he really doesn't now. They're not going anywhere regardless of the coach. The team itself has far too many frailties and flaws. Age is chief among them.

Jeez, any sign of an even slightly difficult question and Sullivan gets his feelings hurt. Get this loser out of here already

Yep, why wasn’t there a follow-up question: why do you fall behind by multiple goals then in so many games? Lol, Sullivan would have gone beserk…

Also, the public sentiment around Sullivan seems to have totally shifted. Even fans on Facebook/reddit/Twitter are calling for his head. Wonder how many years the team will keep their head in the sand

I would have gone with "I don't know how falling behind by multiple goals is a defense, but thanks for your time." Don't even give him a question that he can try to bullshit an answer for.

There's no need to fight about at what point in the timeline you were off the Sullivan wagon.

So long as you aren't still on it.
I was off the Sully bandwagon in 2018 when Cole left. That said, I don't see him losing his job now. Whether he should or not is another matter but I don't see it happening.

Mike Sullivan on how he explains being on the wrong side of so many one-goal games this season: "How many multiple-goal games did we create into one-goal games because we pushed back? ... I think it's a flawed question. ... It lacks context."
Good god, Sullivan needs to go into politics. He will fit right in with his arrogance and weaselly attitude to any and all challenging questions.

We just disagree on whether the window remains open with any reasonably expected moves, be it coaching or roster. Which is fine. Neither of us have a crystal ball.

If it is any consolation delaying the rebuild a year would not make much difference. Just add another year of misery until they will compete again. But it is going to be a fairly long rebuild. Five years maybe? The cupboard is that bare.

This writer sunk his credibility when he said "the coach who put PH on the 4th line in the SC final..."

Well back then it was a wise choice bc Horny had just returned from a hand injury.
I think you might have misread it. That’s exactly what he’s saying. He said the coach who put Horny there (because it was needed) has been missing for a long time, meaning he’s not making the kinds of decisions that are needed anymore.
