Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

I hope we retool the roster and change Sully’s assistants for a 3rd time. It is a charm, they say.

Or would that be 4th? Can’t keep track anymore.

They only overturned like 40% of the roster this past year. Supposedly with Sullivan being the primary influence on roster construction. Though I'm sure that according to the usual suspects he somehow didn't get what he needed this year.

Better make it at least 60% next year for him.

It wouldn’t be fair to fire Sully until technology advances enough to create 23 clones of Mike Sullivan the player that he can coach. The guy has earned at least that much.

Optional skate. But only 2 players missing, Smith and Carter.
What more proof do we need Smith is sulking and don't want to be here?

Carter might just be old.
I agree, and it begs the question, why did Smith sign here? He should have done us and him a favor and not done it!

Does it really matter?

Is there anyone delusional enough to still believe that the window is still open next year? Everyone, except for Sid who made a deal with the devil never to age, will be a year older. And the cupboard is bare. No call ups. No trades. Not enough cap space to make a difference.

If you booked a trip on the Titanic do you care who the Captain who takes over is after they hit the iceberg?

Let's see how Dubas handles the trades this deadline and what he gets. And go from there.
The only silver lining is if they actually replace Sully. Otherwise, it's just another retooling of the bottom 6, D, and replacing Guentzel/Smith. Basically a 3rd round of the same.

You saw in the Islanders game that Malkin still has some fire, but I bet he's emotionally dejected at what he plays with. This year was the absolute last chance, it's time to blow it all up and move on.

But they won't because the stars sell tickets...
I wouldn't mind seeing Malkin and Crosby on the same line for a season. That would be fun at least!

I just can’t wait for the Pens media to ask deep hard hitting questions today. Such as “how bout that Jagr thing?” and “How did you manage to find a player like Matthew Phillips on waivers?????”

I mean, you don't want your coach making wholesale changes every week or two. You want their idea of a system, even if complicated, to have time to play out

But this is YEARS of mediocre results. I dont think whatever the Sully system is, is going to work at this point.

Smith didn’t sign here… he was traded over the summer

In addition, the I'm in st louis

The blues started out pretty much exactly like the pens

They have FAR less talent... Arguably an easier conference

But they fired their coach and are doing better than us

With a shit roster

So... What the f*** are we doing with two of the best forwards and offensive d men in the league and goalies playing average to above their average, here

Aw... you don't think he's having a great time out there being the public whipping boy for everything wrong with the team, getting yanked off the top unit, having to play with waiver fodder and near-busts and only to have his coach (who will go to LENGTHS to prop up husks like Jeff Carter) pop his head around the corner and be all like "lol... yeah pile on, boys... what a POS am I right?!?"

Depends on what your goals are.

If it's Cup or bust, probably not.

If, like me, you just want to see Crosby and Malkin make it out of the first round again before they hang them up, I think it's doable.

The Pens missed the playoffs last year. They are missing them this year. Spoiler alert: They ain't making the playoffs, let alone advancing, next year either.

The window is closed.

So, who is coaching matters little at this point. Hence, my analogy of caring who takes over the Titanic after they hit the iceberg.

I am more interested in the job that Dubas does at the trade deadline to see if he is up to the task for a rebuild.

Because whether you have come to grips with the reality or not, the Pens officially are entering a rebuild now.

Your coach as good as he has been is toast in the off season. Perfect fall guy for dubas.

I myself would break up the pens to rebuild because the longer you wait to turn the aging superstars into more picks and prospects the worse those picks and prospects are. Then the longer the rebuild

Don't drink that dubas coolaid it's losing poison

If Crosby doesn't get traded I would expect Smith nad Graves to stay. All are Nova Scotia boys
After the first 8 words of your post, you could have given us the actual answer to what the meaning of life is and it would have been discredited and most of us would have missed it because starting any post that ridiculously is grounds for a hard skip.

It doesn’t matter for winning but it matters if you have a coach who is not good with young players, developing young players and that’s who your GM wants to play

Here's what I'd like to see (prob a little crazy)

Sully Gone

Harkins, White, Phillips sent down

Hino, Gruden, Big Z up

Puu - Sid - Rust
Rakell - Malkin - Hino
Smith - Eller - Z
DOC - Gruden - Puljujari

Carter

Swap Acciari with Gruden when healthy.
Big Z has had plenty of opportunities. He's a wash.

I hope whoever we trade for is NHL ready. This organization has a below poor track track record of developing talent. Another reason I hate the "draft capital" route.

Did he just learn the word "context" or something? Word-a-Day calendar, Mike?

Seriously look at that and tell me this is the guy you want at the helm.
