Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

To be fair, his commentary on Granlund is accurate. He didn't/doesn't have a place on this team.

He's not a shutdown center. He's not a finisher. He's not a line driver. He's a 3rd wheel on a team with about 20 3rd wheels. "Ill-fitting" doesn't even begin to describe the situation.
Which is why Chris Pryor got the boot as well as I believe it was him who was the driving voice in acquiring him.

It's so f***ing weird. It's like when JR pulled a hard right and veered off course following the back to backs. Why does Sullivan abhor specialists so much? This team won Cups with specialists like Phil, Hornqvist, pre-injury Jake, etc. f***ing weirdo.
Because they didn't win the right way, and now is his chance to prove he's Toe Blake.

Because the goal is to make Geno miserable.

So hey speaking of... the experts both on the team and in the media and of course here and elsewhere in Penguins fandom assured us that holding just Malkin and sometimes Karlsson accountable for the powerplay's woes was the first and possibly second and third step in diagnosing the historically awful performance of that unit. Especially when you slot in clear upgrades like Lars Eller and Warwick Davis to replace him.

How's that going? The Islanders have a heinous PK. I bet they scored at least one last night, right? And have been better overall the last month? I sure haven't heard much follow up about it so I assume good things.

Ownership cannot believe that we are close to competing for a Cup after watching this clown show the past 2 years. The fact that everyone on the coaching staff still has their jobs after riding the fail-boat for almost 2 seasons means that they are (hopefully) waiting until the off-season to make significant changes.

If not, this means we have Clown Owners, which is the worst-case scenario. You can't fire owners.

I started saying it as a joke, but after last night, I think there is something to it.

Malkin had success with Puusy, is on record saying he likes playing with him, and instead Sullivan plays waiver wire fodder on his wing. Then Puusy scored and Sullivan shuffled the lines a bit and put Jeff Carter on Geno's line instead.

I hate when younger guys make mistakes and learn on the job, that's why I, Mike Sullivan, prefer my players to be grizzled vets who don't simply just make mistakes, but are slow and incompetent throughout the entire 82 game season. It's like the classic "don't get high, stay high", but instead, it's the less fun "don't make mistakes, just be f***ing horrendous the entire time."

Jack Adams, please and thank you.

They have, what I would call, "youngplayeraphobia"

They cannot stomach the idea of a young player in the top six potentially making a mistake and learning.
Sullivan put Phillips on Geno's wing. He's only a year older and has only played in 8 more NHL games.

Oh, and he was just given away by his former team for nothing.

One would think now would be an excellent time to start trying. Seeing as how the potential mistakes are becoming largely irrelevant to their place in any potential playoff scenario. But that would require, to riff off of your medical-speak, head-from-ass removal surgery.

The punishing is the point. People rolled their eyes for years. But none of this is particularly new. Just much more pointed this year.

And yet if you added up huge gaffes made during any game, it would all be the vets: Graves, EK and Eller all made huge ones in recent games lol

I'm glad it stands to you too Jesse, but any ideas on why your colleagues have started to go blind? Besides the usual self-pollution, anyhow.
