Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

Well,he did just come in late in the off-season and changed half the roster…wait until next season lol…I’m more disappointed of the lack of “Fire Sullivan” chants at the arena after six failed seasons…wtf, I mean Matt Canada got more hate at PPG lol
And it’s clear it didn’t work. Since the season started, he claimed 2 bums from waivers, one of which has hurt the team as Sully has a man crush on him, and signed pool party. There is no “there’s always next year” anymore. The core is old. Sid cannot carry this team to the playoffs.

Do something. Or don’t. I don’t really care anymore.

He will do something: trade Jake and maybe others…hopefully lol

/I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets driven to the brink of insanity by this.

"tHiS tEaM pLaYs ToO mUcH E/w hOcKeY!1!"

THIS team? They avoid the entirety of the middle of the ice like the bubonic plague has permanently taken up residence there. I think people only say that because it's such a crusty old armchair coach thing to say. "Robble robble you can't play east/west hockey you turn the puck over too much robble robble! Good ol Canadian boys punch the puck up and down the wall all game and if they turn the puck over once blow their brains out in the locker room!"
yeah, i can see why they do it but man there are other things we could do beside the susiside pass across the middle of the ice,
I am still loling over the fact that this team's power play is less effective than the worst Pens teams in living record (and perhaps all-time).
can you imagine all the work that went into being that bad?:biglaugh:

I have pretty mixed feelings with Dubas sitting on his hands.

The biggest thing is the coaching staff which I can't defend. Sullivan and Co. should have been let go before the season, during the season when they started to dig themselves a hole, and again during the bye/All Star break. None of us know for sure if he's allowed to fire Sullivan. Personally, I think he'd be crazy not to make sure he has that authority before taking the job, but I have to leave the possibility open.

When it comes to the roster, I think he could have tried swapping Smith or Rakell for something else, but 1) I don't think it really makes a big enough difference to change the trajectory (without also making a coaching change) and 2) if we're not going to make the playoffs, I'd rather just try to get a pick for him and have the cap space in the offseason.

When it comes to Jake, even if it's 100% they are going to trade him, I think where they are in the standings will help dictate the return. If you're where they are now, maybe you want an all futures package. If you're within striking distance of the playoffs, maybe you want a young roster player that might take off with Sid. If you're in the playoffs, maybe you want a legitimate NHL player back.

Anything else would just be nibbling around the edges and then he'd get criticized for wasting assets on this dud of a team :dunno:

i was hoping they would sign jake and then move him later. a signed jake should be worth more than jake as a rental. might be a little late for that.

It is funny how angry the general fanbase got riled up by our idiot beat writers about Hextall doing nothing. Meanwhile, Dubas has done less in a more dire situation, but he’s above criticism as he’s the boy wonder becuase he apparently did great things with the Leafs as demonstrated by how much winning went on there.

This is where I diverge.

Outside of Dubas demanding the PP coach be canned, I have no issue with what he's done.
Unless I hear something different, he does not have the ability to fire Sully.

And I guess I'll caveat my post with saying that I'm unsure if he has the power to insist that Sully fire his PP coach.

If they signed Jake, he'd 100% get a full NTC. Probably for the entire thing, but definitely at least a few years.

Sure, he could waive it, but why would he do that? He'd be limiting his options to teams that can afford his cap hit this year, have the assets to trade for him, and to teams the Pens would be willing to trade him to.

And on top of that, it would be weakening his new team compared to just signing there as a FA.

I think he has the ability to fire Sullivan…everything I’m hearing and reading is that Sid and Sullivan are very close and Sid doesn’t want to play for another coach…I really hope Sid isn’t de facto running this organization because, no disrespect to him, but his predilections for comfort are terrible and contrary to his stated goal of winning again lol

I think he’s saying , with Jake’s blessing, do a sign and trade for 8 years to another team and that would improve return for him…at least I think lol

He's also churned the bottom six regularly, partially due to injuries, but still.

The problem people had with Hextall was that he made zero moves even internally. The bottom six was struggling and he didn't do a damn thing. How many different guys have at least gotten a few games for the Pens?

The bigger issues always require a dance partner, which typically doesn't happen until close to the deadline.

He said "sign jake and then move him later." Although, now that's re-reading it, he might mean 'later' as in a few years down the line.

Which I think is reasonable, if Jake wants to be here until Crosby retires.

I don't doubt that Sid and Sullivan are close and that Sid likes playing for him, but Sid liked MAF, too. Or Kunitz. Or JMFJ. Or Colby.

If they brought in Gallant or someone that players really don't like, maybe it changes things. Otherwise, I think he'd get over it. Especially if they miss the playoffs 2 years in a row and haven't won a playoff round in 6 years. He's a grown up. He has to understand.

Oh Sid would be fine…I’m just saying FSG is scared of giving Sid one moment of angst it appears for fear he won’t re-sign here lol

also; .... it would also take the pressure off from having to trade him, to we will trade him for the right price.

If this team has somehow bonered itself into a situation where the GM can't fire the coach if he wanted to then I don't even know anymore.
Yeah, if Dubas played himself into having less control here than in Toronto we are f***ed. But the most likely explanation is that he doesn’t care about the coaching which means we are also f***ed, just differently.

OH GOOD GOD Stopwith the Gallant shit, He sucks outloud

Per Mike Sullivan:-The Penguins will be dressing an irregular lineup of 11 forwards and seven defensemen tonight.-Tristan Jarry is on the hill.

It doesn’t take a dance partner to fire the bumbling idiot coach that has the title of running to the PP. If only to send a symbolic message that the results are entirely unacceptable.
